Dallas, TX - (10-23-03). Successful, empowering, motivated, self-educated, self-made, millionaire; these are the words that come to mind when describing, Charles "Choppa" Key, CEO and President of Deep South Tycoons Entertainment.
The name of the record label, Deep South Tycoons Entertainment gives insight into how Charles Key became a self-made millionaire and business entrepreneur. "Deep South represents Texas and my Louisiana roots; Tycoons came from my love the board game Monopoly. The tycoon playing piece represents wealth, he stands out as a business magnet; he's known as a tycoon," says Key.
Key has obtained two degrees, but doesn't feel that college made him who he is today. You have to have a true willingness to learn. I have that. It doesn't matter what your degrees are in, what matters is real life and how you're going to make it happen for you.
Born and raised in Louisiana, Keys didn't come from money. He went from living in public housing to owning public housing; He went from riding on public transportation to owning three luxury vehicles. After five and a half (5) years in the military, Keys wanted to make money. "I'm an avid reader, as long as it's something that's teaching me or making me a better person. Every book I was reading at the time told me real estate was the way to making money, so that's what I did. I became very successful in real estate and began traveling to a different city everyday giving seminars and I was making $10,000 per seminar."
Due to his hard work, the modest Keys, made his first million at the age of 23, but soon got bored with real estate. "I was burned out. I wanted to do something that was fun and for me and that was entertainment, specifically music. Being the entrepreneur he is, Keys started a record label. It was never meant to be serious. I advertised for rappers in a calendar I was putting out and from there, Deep South Tycoons Entertainment was born, in June of 2000. My first artists were E-Mack (he was the producer), Lil Sun (he topped billboard charts), Mexican Mike and Dice. We were poised to take the music industry by a storm."
The first year didn't turn out as successful as Keys had hoped. The first year was hard and we wasted a lot of money, due to not knowing enough about the music industry. But that's where Keys ingenuity and business acumen took over. "I took some time and really learned the business. I don't believe in making the same mistakes over. From that point, Deep South Tycoons Entertainment became a legitimate business designed to make an impact and make money."
Key's inspiration came from his mother. "My mother went from making $18,000 a year to a comfortable six figure income per year at her job. She self-educated herself and did what she needed to do so that the company she worked for could not deny her what she had earned. She didn t even own her first car until she was 34 years old. As for the future of Deep South Tycoons Entertainment, if we remain independent, I want to establish three (3) or four (4) artists with a fan base that will move between 35,000 to 75,000 units. Those figures should put us at five (5) million a year."
As a single father with honor roll twin children, Keys continues to work in real estate, but only selling homes between $500,000 and $2 million and through mostly real estate investments. "I see myself growing spiritually, mentally and gaining more knowledge through self education. I want to continue to enhance myself, for me as well as my children and all future endeavors."

KAM RI Media Group Dallas, TX - (9/19/03). Tha Dirty South has done it again! The 5th CD from Black Mophia Clan is Flossed Out & definitely "UnXpected". Black Mophia Clan's 1st CD, "BMC 4 Life" had hustlas and honeys bobbin' their heads, but this CD is destined to have listeners vibin', radio stations heatin' up the airwaves and the charts blowin' up. "This CD is very versatile, it has something for everyone. It covers all bases. If you're laidback, if you like club music, if you're a hustla on the grind, no matter what you're feelin', "UnXpected" has your flava," says group lyricist Mon. Black Mophia Clan came together in 1992, in Monroe, Louisiana. Group members, Lunatic, Bigg Red, Mon and Cook knew of each other's talents from around the way and joined forces to make their dream of music a reality. Each of the members of this hot hip hop group lends a unique style to their music; the real eclectic style of Cook, the wild side of Mon, the smooth style and crowd appeal of Lunatic and of course the lyrical, passionate free-flowing style of the only female member and music mastermind Bigg Red. The crunk stylings of this regional sensation already has their fans throwing them bows with the release of their single Flossed Out, featuring Papa Reu. |
|
Black Mophia Clan has opened for artists, such as, Mystikal, Skull Duggery (No Limit), Jagged Edge, Twista, 69 Boyz, JT Money and the Youngbloodz, just to name a few. They will continue to move the crowd this fall with a Back to School Party at Big Town Exhibit Hall in Dallas and then again in Corsicana Auditorium ; their Album Release Party in Monroe, Louisiana is Set for Late January 2004 and will join the Ying Yang Twins, Youngbloodz and BoLegs at the Big Town Exhibit Hall on October 4, in Dallas. If that isn't enough, they will also add their musical talents to the Grooveline Magazine Black Historical University Tour, October 15-25. Even though BMC enjoyed much success and media play with their first four CDs, they did not have the resources to continue to take their music to the next level. A couple of the group members eventually moved to Dallas from Monroe, LA for better opportunities and to secure a recording contract. After some disappointments and triumphs, Black Mophia Clan signed a record deal with Deep South Tycoons Records and this allowed the other members to move to Dallas as well as take them (the group) to the next level, while realizing their dream of making music. Deep South Tycoons Records is a record label breaking new artists in the south. Besides Black Mophia Clan, the label also represents Lil' Sun and United Soldiers. Ran by Dallas business Tycoon, Charles Key, the label has been very progressive. "We handle all our own concerts, which gives us the ability to control all our own marketing and promotions. We also work with larger acts, like Swisher House, Eight Ball and MJG, and UGK which ensure our artists the exposure they need to create awareness and ultimately sell records," says Key. "We have done a lot in a short time." Continue to listen for Deep South Tycoons Records and Black Mophia Clan because they are definitely "UnXpected", and will be bringing da noize! Look out for Black Mophia Clan's latest CD, "UnXpected", coming out in Spring 2004 to a location near you! For contact, please call Charles Key (214) 914-0509. |
