6-29-05 (San Francisco, California). Terry McMillan, 53, filed divorce papers in Contra Costa County Superior Court after learning that her husband of 6 ½ years, Jonathan Plummer, 30, is gay (He came out to her before Christmas). He inspired her 1996 novel, "How Stella Got Her Groove Back," about a 40-something woman who falls for a guy half her age. McMillan met Plummer ten years ago at a Jamaican resort. She believes he married her to get his U.S. citizenship. She says that "it was devastating to discover that a relationship I had publicized to the world as life-affirming and built on mutual love was actually based on deceit. . . I was humiliated." She wants to have the marriage annulled and he wants the court to set aside a prenuptial agreement. McMillan's latest novel, "The Interruption of Everything," about a married mother of three who questions her her comfortable suburban life, is scheduled for release in July.
