A Little Levity in the Shadow of the Republican National Convention: Politics Gets Juices Flowing at NYC Jamba Juice

September 2004 (Newstream) -- Politics seems to get everyone's juices flowing. But surprisingly, it's the juice that's bringing the parties together. While the Republican Convention continued into its third day in New York City, Jamba Juice, the category-defining leader in freshly blended-to-order fruit smoothies and juices, hosted a healthy, non-partisan "John and George Drink for Free" lunch event at its Times Square location. The store blended up complimentary non-partisan smoothies for a crowd of John's, George's, Ralph's and every Joe and Jane who wanted to cast his or her vote for healthy competition and unified fun.
"It doesn't matter if you're campaigning for the highest office in the land, a Democrat named George or a Republican named John, our Jamba Juice team wants to support healthy competition by energizing everyone -- especially during this election year," said Paul Clayton, president and CEO, Jamba Juice.
During this hotly contested election year the candidates actually agree on the red, white and blue ingredients -- strawberries, bananas and blueberries -- found in Jamba Smoothies. While Laura Bush and John Edwards support their mate's platforms on the campaign trail, they have been known to share similar tastes when it comes to ordering their favorite Jamba Protein Berry Pizzazz Smoothie. But when it comes to Jamba Smoothies, no one is undecided. It's likely George W. would satisfy his thirst for orange juice (and support his Texas and Florida constituents) with an Orange-A-Peel to the people, while New Englander John Kerry would root for a Cranberry Craze® to stir things up. Underdog and people's champion Ralph Nader would be fueled in his quest for power with the sustaining Orange Dream Machine®.
From California to the New York Isle, Jamba Juice is campaigning for a happy, healthy and energized America by providing nutritious and delicious meal and snack options for all. Jamba Juice has more than 440 company-owned and franchised/licensed stores in 25 states nationwide. The company inaugurated its first store in Manhattan in February 2004. Since then, Jamba Juice has opened locations throughout New York City -- in Columbus Circle (Whole Foods Time Warner Center), Times Square and Bryant Park. September 1 marks the opening of Jamba Juice's fourth Manhattan store, located in Chelsea, at 176 5th Avenue at 23rd Street. The company expects to have eight stores opened in the city by the end of the year.

July 2004 (Newstream) -- David Crosby and Graham Nash have thrown their respective hats into the ring for the Presidency of the United States, entering an already crowded and diverse field with their bid on the Party Party ticket. What distinguishes the Crosby/Nash candidacy is that theirs is a campaign for a "Joint Presidency," where the two will share responsibilities on an alternate day basis. When asked who would be named their Vice President, Graham Nash replied there was no need for one -- "We'll have two presidents, and between us we have vice covered."
Crosby and Nash caught members of the media off guard at a press event earlier this month that was expected to be an official announcement of the release of their first album together as a duo in almost three decades. Instead, the spotlight turned to their run for Joint Presidency 2004. Among other things, the co-candidates discussed the imminent launch of their barn-storming tour across America in the official Crosby-Nash campaign airstream trailer, and their national television advertising campaign scheduled to begin airing July 26.
Recently, David Crosby told an assembled crowd that, if elected, one of their first acts would be the cleaning out of Area 51 to address the illegal alien issue." Other campaign promises include free money, and a night in the Lincoln Bedroom to anyone who antes up $200,000. The renamed "Social Insecurity" and "Medicareless" agencies will be overhauled, and the candidates are researching fixing the electronic voting machine situation. "Remember," they say, "it's not the people who vote that change things, it's the people that count the votes that change things."
Though new as co-Presidential contenders, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers David Crosby and Graham Nash are a longtime team whose official collaboration began with 1969's self-titled Crosby, Stills & Nash album debut. Since that landmark work, they have continued to record and tour in various configurations together-in tandem, and with CSN and CSNY -- in addition to their solo projects.
Crosby and Nash are taking time out of a packed summer schedule to pursue their Joint Presidency, but they feel their country needs them. Currently, they're touring coast-to-coast with Crosby, Stills & Nash (through September 22), and no doubt the Party Party platform will be integrated into their on-the-road message. And, on August 10, Sanctuary Records will release their fourth studio album as a duo-and their first-ever double album together -- Crosby-Nash, recorded in L.A. in early 2004.
All things considered, the move to the political forefront makes perfect sense. When asked how rock 'n' roll and campaigning measured up against each other, Crosby commented, "Well, 'I rock' is much better than Iraq." That notwithstanding, citing their opponents as bush-league, both David Crosby and Graham Nash personally and heartily approved their Party Party Joint Candidacy, and the race is on!
