8-17-05. Computers shut down in the United States, Germany, and Asia because of a fast-moving computer worm that attacked Microsoft operating systems on Tuesday. Media organizations, as well as Capitol Hill, were among the infected. Symptoms include the repeated shutdown and rebooting of computers. A downloadable security patch is available at Microsoft.com. The worm exploits a vulnerability in Microsofts plug-and-play service. It looks for computers that are not patched and runs itself. Thousands of worms and viruses exist at any given time.

(3/9/06) As I'm sure you already know, Microsoft Vista is on the way! Microsoft projects that all five versions of Vista will be available by mid-2006, and if that holds this will be the longest time period ever between versions of Windows.
Yes, that's right - I said "all five versions". Microsoft says that past versions of their OS, such as Windows XP, were based more on hardware type than how people actually used their PCs. MS says that this will not be the case with Vista, and to that end they're going to offer two separate versions of Vista to businesses and two to home PC users. In this article, we’ll take a quick overview of Microsoft Vista Business features.
Windows Vista Business is offered as a solution for all companies, regardless of size. In answer to security concerns about past Microsoft products, Vista Business will offer built-in solutions against malware. And for those of you (okay, us) who never quite have all the information on their PCs backed up properly, Vista will not only help you to resolve catastrophic failures before they occur, but new features Windows Backup and Volume Shadow Copy will help to ensure that you never have to pray for a hard drive to come back to life because you're behind on your backups!
Windows Vista Enterprise will bring these features and more to enterprise-level networks. One of these is Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption, designed to encrypt an entire hard drive. BitLocker will help prevent the loss of your organization’s intellectual property even if the PC it’s on is stolen.
To start learning more about Vista, visit www.microsoft.com/windowsvista. Regardless of whether your company has any plans to move to Vista, you owe it to yourself and your career to keep up with the latest technologies- and that includes Microsoft!

(8/15/06) I love new technology. I am still ready to wait long for Longhorn. I have tried almost all operating systems of Windows series. My interest in Longhorn is building up day by day and the reason is..! From beginning Microsoft is very successful to project Longhorn as something mysterious. Many interesting stories are connected with it, which helped Longhorn to gain pre-launch popularity; I would rather say curiosity about this product. I don't know who is the propaganda minister of Microsoft? May be Mr. Brightside or Mr.Lonely. Relax guys I was just kidding.
Did you Know that Windows XP was code-named Whistler and the next version of Windows was code-named Blackcomb. The names come from ski areas in British Columbia from the vicinity of Microsoft's headquarter at the foot of Whistler Mountain, while 'Longhorn' is scheduled to be the next release from Microsoft, gets its name from a popular saloon called the 'Longhorn Saloon & Grill' situated near this ski area. I hope after relaxing at 'Whistler' you may find the 'Longhorn' as the better spot to relax for a longer.
Now let's come to the point. What does make Longhorn so sought after? It shows off a new graphics engine called Avalon that makes the interface look better, but only the promise of a better interface is sufficient to justify the utility value of Longhorn? 'Avalon' uses 3D graphics hardware and 3D technology like Direct 3D to turn buttons, title bars, and icons into animated, 3D-rendered, and sometimes transparent objects besides this Longhorn also has something known as Indigo and WinFX. 'Indigo' is a messaging system that allows programs to interact as part of Microsoft's .NET framework while 'WinFX' is a new API (Application Programming Interface) that will have more advanced new .NET-based API with new communications and collaboration system.
'Aero' is the codename given to the new interface that's going to be used in Longhorn. It is assumed that Aero is will be more aesthetically pleasing than previous Windows interfaces. What excited me more is Longhorn's new search engine. For any given search this engine displays instant results. It enables you multiple filter options to refine your search. The saved searches feature is also exciting that segregates your results into 'virtual folders'. So the next time you open that virtual folder, the specific search will immediately come into action and display the results as a normal folder, it is actually an improved version of the indexing service that's used in the 'Search' of Windows XP.
The 'Metro' feature of Longhorn is proclaimed as the 'PDF-Killer', similar to Adobe's PDF format. Many Web sites offer their downloadable documents in PDF. Like PDF Metro is a feature that assures a consistent format for both screen and print output.
Microsoft has promised a faster installation process in Longhorn and that is only 15-minute installation. If you've spent hours installing operating systems, you must appreciate this feature. The built-in DVD recording capabilities and support for native RAW images is another feature of Longhorn this is a format used by most digital cameras. It will also have an improved file encryption algorithm that is easier to use and is more effective in preventing the confidential data on computers.

(12/11/05) It is possible that the breakdown of a payment into principal and interest that Microsoft Money makes will be incorrect. Rounding errors, payment delays, and perhaps even a bug in either Money’s or the bank’s calculations may mean that the loan balance that Money shows for a loan or mortgage is incorrect.
Understanding the problem
When the ending balance that Money shows is incorrect, it simply means that Money has incorrectly split one or more loan payments between principal and interest. What you need to do, in this case, is adjust the ending balance and categorize the adjustment as falling into the same interest expense category and subcategory as you are using to track the interest component of the loan payment. To make this sort of adjustment, display the account register for the loan or mortgage that you need to adjust. Then click Update Amount Owed in the list of common tasks. Money then displays the Adjust Loan Balances dialog box.
Fixing the principal balance error
To adjust, or correct, the loan balance, enter the correct ending balance in the New Ending Balance box and the ending balance date in the As Of Date box. You should be able to get this information from the end-of-year or end-of-month loan statement that alerted you to the loan balance error.
Fixing the interest expense error
To fix the interest portion of the loan record-keeping error, enter the interest category and subcategory you used in the Category For Adjustment boxes. For example, if you used Loan as the category and Mortgage Interest as the subcategory, enter this category and subcategory in the two boxes.
While it might seem curious to use the loan interest categories for categorizing an adjustment to the loan balance, remember that loan payments are split between principal and interest. Therefore, if you overstate the principal components of a loan payment, you implicitly understate the interest componentsand vice versa. In effect, adjusting the loan ending balance is the same thing as adjusting the cumulative principal payments made on the loan. And that means you need to also adjust cumulative interest payments made on the loan.
