AURORA, Ill., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Aurora, the City of Lights as well as being Illinois' second largest city, will soon be the location for several new restaurants that will be located at River Street Plaza, a mixed-use project under development along the beautiful Fox River in Aurora's historic downtown.
"River Street Plaza is an exciting new multi-phased development consisting of a destination restaurant district, as well as a residential community of 220 luxury condominiums and lofts," said Joseph Vantreese, developer of the River Street Plaza project.
Phase 1 of the project, which is nearing completion, consists of two identical riverside buildings, each with beautiful river walks with the adjacent riverside restaurant district. The next phases of the project include two additional mixed-use buildings, a conversion of a four-story building from industrial use into classic urban residential lofts, and conveniently located parking, that will service visitors and the new restaurant district. Presently, Building 1 of the project has been completed, with over fifty percent of its residential condominiums already sold. "We are very excited to announce these new restaurants which we feel will compliment our project and offer residents and visitors a great riverfront destination in downtown Aurora." said Mr. Vantreese.
The first fine-dining restaurant of the project is the River Street Bistro and Market, an exciting new concept created by pioneering restaurateur Scott Ascher that will be the anchoring restaurant and occupy approximately 4,000 square feet of Building 1.
"Now is the time for my wife and I to take the many experiences we have obtained through our previous ventures and create this new concept," said Mr. Ascher. "In a very short time, our customers will learn that the River Street Bistro and Market will be their regular place for gourmet food and wine with outstanding service on the Fox River."
This is the latest concept from Mr. Ascher, whose successful career includes the development and management of Walter Payton's Roundhouse Complex, which is also located in Aurora, for the past eleven years. Under Mr. Ascher's direction, the "Roundhouse" has developed into a regional destination, in part because of its outstanding cuisine, award wining beers and atmosphere. Mr. Ascher was the creative force, owner and manager of Restaurante Chianti in downtown Geneva, Illinois. He also developed the Mill Rose Brewing Company in South Barrington, Illinois, as well as the original Goose Island Brewing Company on Clybourn Avenue in downtown Chicago. River Street Bistro and Market will be an exciting new wine bistro, offering items ranging in price from $3.00 to $25.00, featuring an ever-changing fresh food menu that will include hand-cut aged steaks, fresh seafood and pasta. River Street Bistro and Market will also feature an extensive offering of fine wines and world class lagers and ales from Mr. Ascher's Roundhouse Brewery. Patrons will be able to enjoy the bistro's dining, both indoor and outdoor, with café style seating on the riverside and Central Plaza. Another element
of the restaurant will include a fresh food market that will feature everything from fresh meats and farm vegetables to fully-prepared meals. Kona Cafe
Another new tenant is the Kona Cafe, a Polynesian coffee house that will occupy 1,300-square feet within Building 1 and will be adjacent to the project's central courtyard. Kona Café will offer an extensive selection of world-renowned Kona coffee that is only cultivated on the slopes of Mount Hualalai and Mauna Loa of the Big Island of Hawaii. Pure Kona coffee is considered one of the premium specialty coffees of the world.
Kona Cafe's interior will be a welcoming environment complete with upscale wood and leather furnishings that will soon become the area's favorite coffeehouse gathering place. Kona Cafe also offers outdoor courtyard seating in the Central Plaza that is adjacent to one of the projects limestone pools. Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwich Shop
A third new tenant is Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwich Shop, which will also occupy 1,300-square feet within Building 1. Jimmy John's is very well known and is unlike any sandwich shop in the industry; no games or gimmicks, just old-fashioned, homemade sandwiches made from fresh-baked bread, all-natural meats and vegetables that are sliced daily at each restaurant. The company is known for its passion to use only fresh, quality products and high-speed execution.
The anticipated opening date for all three restaurants is during October 2007.
In total River Street Plaza's two riverfront buildings each feature approximately 22,000-square feet of ground floor commercial space that is being devoted to a diverse mix of restaurants, including fine dining and casual eateries facing the river with beautiful cafe-style outdoor seating. "We continue to be in active negotiations with a number of restaurateurs, including national brands, as well as Chicagoland area brands," states David Fitzgerald, Director of Commercial Properties for The Vanstrand Group. "We are very excited to announce the additions of these quality restaurants to this significant project."
River Street Plaza is centrally located within Aurora's historic downtown area, providing both its residents and diners with easy access to three performing art theatres, Hollywood Casino, SciTech Hands-on Museum, numerous city sponsored events and festivals, the David L. Pierce Art and History Center, numerous nearby art galleries and is only blocks from one Metra's largest commuter train stations.
