Education and Work Experience
John
Kerry received his B.A. from Yale University in 1966 and his
law degree from Boston College in 1976. In the Navy, from
1966 to 1970 and the Reserves from 1972 to 1978, Kerry
served as a Navy officer and was awarded a Silver Star,
Bronze Star for rescuing a Green Beret who had gone
overboard during a mission, and three Purple hearts. From
1977 to 1979, he was assistant district attorney for
Middlesex County and an attorney from 1979 to 1982.
Organized crime was one of his targets. He also fought for
victims’ rights and created programs for rape counseling.
