Afeni Shakur Responds to LA Times Article

The Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation presents the 2008 Leadership & Arts Camp

Cities include Atlanta, Los Angeles, & Oakland

ATLANTA, March 28 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to the Los Angeles Times article Mrs. Shakur said, "We will continue to work to save the lives of our young people and to offer peaceful alternatives to violence and conflict resolution. That is what we have done since the murder of my son, and that is exactly what we will consciously continue to do," said Afeni Shakur.

The mother of Tupac and founder of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation also announced the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the LEADERSHIP & ARTS CAMP by adding an Atlanta Spring Break Camp and announcing expansion into California for the first time to host Camps this summer. The Camps are open to students ages 5-18 (Atlanta Spring Break) and ages 12-18 (Atlanta, Oakland, and Los Angeles Summer 2008). Camp Applications are available in English and Spanish online at www.TASF.org or by calling toll free 888-875 TASF.

Celebrities such as Jasmine Guy, Ashanti, Lou Gossett, Vivica Fox, Marshal Mathers (Eminem), T.I., Tyrese, Chocolate, Mike Epps and many others have worked with the Foundation on projects that benefit students at the Foundation. Students receive instruction in acting, creative writing, dance, vocal training, set and stage design, video production and the business of entertainment. The camp also stresses literacy, responsibility, and conflict resolution. The camp experience comes to a dramatic climax with a full theatrical production at the end of the Camp session.

Many of the former participants (PAC's Kids Camp Alumni) have gone on to appear in television shows, movies and concerts such as Alvin Ailey Dance, Good Day Atlanta, VH-1 Save The Music, Mary J. Blige tour and more. Afeni Shakur, the mother of the multi-talented Tupac Shakur, established the program in 1999 to give young people quality arts training. Rap On:

The Tupac Shakur Collection

Spans the Legend’s Career

MIAMI—(9/04). Throughout his short but illustrious career, rapper, actor, and poet Tupac Shakur produced eight Certified Platinum albums and saw numerous singles and CDs hit No. 1 on the charts. The Oakland-bred artist had reached celebrity status as both a solo artist and as a movie actor when he died in Las Vegas in September of 1996, just a few short years after the release of his debut album, 2Pacalypse Now.

On the eve of the eighth anniversary of Shakur’s death, Warner Bros. Publications brings together Shakur’s most celebrated hits in The Tupac Shakur Collection, a sheet music songbook arranged for piano/vocal/chords spanning the artist’s entire career.

Titles in The Tupac Shakur Collection include “Brenda’s Got a Baby,” “California Love,” “R U Still Down?” “Changes,” “Dear Mama,” “Do for Love,” “How Do U Want It,” “I Ain’t Mad at Cha,” “I Get Around,” “I Wonder If Heaven Got a Ghetto,” “Me Against the World,” “Papa’z Song,” “So Many Tears,” “To Live & Die in LA” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted.”

The Tupac Shakur Collection not only includes sheet music for Shakur’s 15 top songs, but the lyrics as well. This is the ONLY songbook available by the late rap legend Tupac Shakur and is an official keepsake book approved by his mother, Afeni Shakur.  The Tupac Shakur Collection is a must for anyone interested in preserving the legacy of one of rap's most gifted artists.  Featuring haunting black-and-white images of Shakur on the front and back covers, as well as on the table of contents page, the 84-page book has a suggested retail price of $19.95.

Warner Bros. Publications (WBP) is the largest print music publisher in the world.  Headquartered in Miami, Fla., WBP is home to the most respected product lines in music education, as well as a powerhouse pop catalog and top instructional music DVDs and videos.
