(12/12/07). Ike Turner, the African American rock legend known infamously for beating his ex-wife, Tina Turner, has died at the age of 76 in San Diego, California. At this time, cause of death is unknown, even though he suffered with emphysema. Ike Turner was instrumental in laying the ground for rock and roll; he was a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is credited with making the first rock and roll record, "Rocket 88," in 1951. In 2007, he won a Grammy for "Risin' With the Blues," on his traditional blues album.
