San Francisco, CA - (4/21/04) "Inside the Fall" caused Barnes & Noble Booksellers to do a double take. Barnes & Noble took a second look at the thrilling debut novel by sensational Oakland, California author Terry E. Hill, and decided the book is a keeper. Barnes & Noble Booksellers stores nationwide now carry the intriguing insider's tales of back-office politics under the leadership of San Francisco's first African American mayor. Mayor Elijah D. Farrow had it all -- a lovely, intelligent and polished high-society wife, presidential-like influence across the nation, and his eye on serving a second term. Why, then would he jump from the fifth floor ledge of the City Hall rotunda? And, to what lengths did his wife go to instigate his downfall? "Inside the Fall" delves into . . . Thoughts . . .by Uta Malianga Lets be real… at the end of the day it's each for his own. Someone needs to tell me though, why it is that the game never plays out like that. I’m one of those dim witted niggas that thinks that if I do my best and try my hardest to play fair that life will eventually come right. |

That theory served me pretty well for a while but then I realized that the game everybody else was playing had different rules. What I thought was playing fair was really just jerking me off with no hopes of ever coming (literally). It's tough out there man. It’s the real world. No one is ever gonna lend you five bucks without expecting interest of one variety or the other, and noone’s gonna pat your back unless they were on your team. I’m a young man coming up. I mean I’m saying that now, but in five or six years I’ll be a middle-aged man stuck in a rut, double up and I’m an old man trying to survive. Let's be real, the team may change but the game remains the same. My advice to my people is learn the rules. You may be able to keep the guns out of schools, but until you get metal detectors up in the delivery room you’ll never be able to keep them out of life. The reason is simple. All things, good and evil, they start in the head. My question is “what’s in yours?” From the things you think when you with your peeps, to the same brain working on s*** when you on your own. You’ve gotta ask at one point, how much of your life is actually your own.Lets be real, if you ain’t doin’ it for the fam, your doin’ it for the niggas and if that ain’t the case then your doin’ it for yourself, but on the real that last case scenario is never really the case. You want the dough right? The dough ain’t nothing without your boys right, the picture ain’t quite right without a lady, and your girl’ll be alright for a while but then you gotta have the offspring. Now you got it. The dough, your boys, your girl, your spring what’s missing? (cont. up) |
I won’t even begin to try to answer that question, partly cuz I have no idea where to even begin trying to. I have a strong feeling though, that the answer lies somewhere in the beginning. Forget what you set out to get and think about you. When honey’s give you the eye or niggas give you the grill, what do they like, what do they hate. C’mon people we can’t all be player’s and we can’t all be player haters. I’ll give it to niggas though we can be both at different points in our lives. Things change according to the rules of the game. Some peeps have the stock market, I have the Nigga Market. When some teams are ballin’, they’re worth investing in, then you become a player and the if the stock goes up, the nigga that didn’t invest becomes a hater. I mean you have your blue chips, like my Bad Boy niggas, ten years from now we’ll still be on top, to Hova and Rockafella. The Nigga Market, I like that thought. I’ll pick up on there in the next episode. Give you peeps a chance to decide whether I deserve to be shouting out to you or not, or whether my black voice is one best drowned out. That’s my shout out people. To you and yours.Rate this article on a scale of 1 to 5. Would you like to see more from this writer? We'll post your comments
