BLIND FAITH

Staring out in the direction of the fountain, my eyes met with some of the most pretty eyes I had seen on a brotha. Violet. A pretty boy. Teakwood complexion, honey cornsilk waves, and a cleft chin. He had that Malcolm from the Young and the Restless vibe going on. I smiled. He smiled back.

"I know you ain't making goo-goo eyes at that sell-out!"

"Sell-out?" I asked, half paying attention to Sharmaye, my eye candy, tennis racket thrown over his shoulder, melting out of view between one of the science buildings and the freshman dorm.  [Go to first installment]

(2/25/04). In his youth, Mark Moody was fascinated by suspension bridges: their strength and balance, the complex network of cables and trusses arranged so that each strengthens the next; so that, together, they support the whole structure.

Moody's job today may seem a far cry from his original career dream, but in many ways, he's still building bridges. Moody  provides guidance and technical expertise on NASA rocket-propulsion test assets, activities and resources in support of testing rocket engines -- the technologies necessary to bridge the challenges of space flight and carry future launch vehicles to space. Extensions of a Man

I have seen desolate places and have cried upon
clouded hill tops all in the name of love
tears stained upon my face for the
sacrifice I have given thee

I have suffered in the name of man
and tasted the blood of the cross for
burdens I do carry as I maintain the role
of being merely my brother's keeper

To live free a man must be totally free
free from chains of racial conflictions
and derogatory actions reaping
from the color of my skin
or the mere tone of my voice

I had to die in slavery through the paths
of my mind stuff the cotton in dark cracks
of memories as I crawl in a fetal
position and fight the tears that command
their presence like a child I call for
my mother to save me my woman to love me
and my brothers to respect me

My only defense against the key keepers
is that I walk in God's light only there
can I be safe and whole and find
the tools I need to build my way
to strengthen my walk
and the extensions to
gather my faith

I Am Not

I am not
I have no history
I have no parents
I have no home

I have heard my master boast of his glorious roots,
How he is derived from a great civilization
He spoke of great advances made in science, arts and philosophy
He claimed superiority for I was of savage origins
And by extension, a savage well deserving of my lot

Ever since I’ve known myself, I’ve been in the care of others
But for just as long, I’ve been aware that I was not their child
I’ve come to regard my oppressor as both father and mother
I address even his children, years my junior, in the same manner

I live where I work
My work makes living impossible
I can barely sleep
I’m not even given food enough to sustain me through daily hard labor sun up to
sun down
I’ve been in this state all my life
And will be so the rest of my days

"The Passion" And The Truth?

(2/24/04). personally don't believe that R. Kelly would do such a thing. the Deal with Aaliyah was a publicity Stunt and just like a lie it got everyone's attention. I happen to be From Chicago and is a huge fan of Mr. Kelly. I saw the tape and looking at it, the scenes didn't impress me nor the man resembling R. Kelly, you can clearly see that it is dark around the cheek bone of the person on the video like it is a paste on face. it is not Robert Kelly. I think everybody should get some business and leave this man alone. To all the mothers of the world you need to try a control your children a little better and stop looking for a quick come up.

"Sisterhood"

Different sizes, shapes, and colors
yet, we have some of the same problems.
Male problems, children problems,
mood swings, mental and physical problems,
you name them, we have them.
We comfort each other, we get on each other's nerves.
Sistahs assisting Sistahs, who are like us?
You give me your shoulder to cry on,
I give you my helping hands.
You give me advice and strength,
I give you a listening ear.
I give you my love and support,
you give me your...
friendship.

NEW AFRICAN-AMERICAN BOOK HELPS BLACK WOMEN UNDERSTAND THEIR TRUE WORTH

Detroit, MI - (BlackNews.com/BlackPR.com) - 1-11-04.Despite progress that has been made in the struggle for racial equality, many women of color have yet to fully understand their true worth and potential. In author Terri McFaddin's newest book entitled Sapphires and Other Precious Jewels, she uncovers the distorted perceptions African American women deal with on a daily basis and empowers them to embrace and celebrate their value and strength.

In Sapphires and Other Precious Jewels (WaterBrook/Random House, 224 pages, paperback, 1-57856-599-5, $12.99), McFaddin draws from biblical scripture to describe 12 precious gemstones that correlate to a characteristic shared by women of African descent. The book is written for women of African ancestry, particularly those who need to discover and rediscover their beauty and value. McFaddin hopes the book will tackle the self-esteem issues many women of color have and give them the courage to overcome the adversities in their life.

"If any race of women should recognize that their value is far above rubies, pearls and sapphires, it's those of African ancestry," says McFaddin. "The challenges that Black women have faced throughout history might have crushed their spirits. But instead adversity has caused these women to shine with the brilliance of precious jewels."
