Pre-launch or brand new start-ups are two to stay away from in the world of home based businesses. The chance of these companies becoming the next Amway is about as good as winning the lottery. I know because I have fallen for them several times. My very first home based internet business was a program that promoted multiple income streams. I went through 4 different home based businesses my first year alone. I had minor success, never the huge numbers I had read about. I did a little research, always looking for the big score. I thought to myself, if I could just get in early, then maybe I would be one of those people you read about. All I learned is that most people jump into a program with no intent of staying for any length of time. They ride the wave for 2-3 months and move on to the next pre launch program. If your current sponsor gives you a good reason or excuse, "I call it a sales pitch" on why they are leaving and going to this new and improved company, you probably will feel bad if you do not follow your sponsor. You might feel like you let your sponsor down if you don't follow them to the next internet business. The simple truth is that's how they want you to feel AND THEY MIGHT EVEN MAKE YOU FEEL STUPID IF YOU DON'T FOLLOW. So you follow them. I have done this too. Then you realize that your sponsor will continue to do this to you every 2-3 months, leaving you broke and broken hearted. The best sponsors are loyal to you. They stay in a program and work the program. This is the only way to make real money long term. If you are trying to make a name for yourself on the internet, you must have long term success. The only way to have long term success is to commit to a company and work that company long term. Think about it: If you are an employer, would you hire a person that has had 4-5 jobs in the last year. Unless it was seasonal work, that resume would be tossed out and forgotten. So, if your sponsor's resume looks like a teenager or seasonal employee, you're looking at trouble.

When I evaluate a company, I look for certain key points. This is what I've learned and I hope these guidelines will help you determine what company is right for you.

If you are not making at least 75% of the upfront commission when you make a sale, forget it. This means that you are doing all the work while the company and/or the person above you make all the money.

If you can't break even or get into profit with 3 sales, forget it.

If you have to have 1000, 10,000 or 20,000 people in your organization before you make any real money. DO NOT Join. Most people will NEVER get there.

If they teach you to hold home parties and invite all your friends. Run away fast.

If the person / company giving you their "sales pitch" are more interested in selling you than in teaching you how to make sales, there is no long term value or profit. Just more money out of your pocket.

If you can't speak with the owners or the corporate office via phone or webinar, forget it. I like to know who I am doing business with before I will do business with them.

These are not all the rules for success on the internet, but this is a great guideline to follow when evaluating a home based internet business. Use this information to help you narrow down your choices for choosing a company that best fits your goals.

I'm going to congratulate you again.

By reading this you are already displaying the #1 most vital ingredient to enjoying success.. persistence. Keep it up!

This time I want to talk more about the choices you have available to you as a person wanting to get started in your very own business.

There are so many ways to do it I couldn't possibly cover them all here. But since my expertise is in using the Internet to build a business, that's what I'll teach you.

We will just skim over the different ways for now, but don't worry because we'll re-visit them later for a closer inspection.

Let's have a look at the different ways to do it:

Turn-Key Business - this type of business is great if you are a complete novice and just starting out. They are called 'turn-key' because everything is set up ready for you to start immediately, that is, you just turn the key.

Usually, turn-key businesses are in the network marketing industry. That's a dirty word to some but an effective way to make massive dollars if you are prepared to do it. Some of my income comes from this type of business.

Affiliate Programs - a simple arrangement where you direct customers to a merchant and receive a commission on everything the customer buys. It can be anything from tropical holidays to pen sets to downloadable ebooks.

Many online merchants have an affiliate program in place, which you can easily sign up for. Then you send people to the web address the affiliate program gives you. I make a lot of my dollars from affiliate programs.

Drop Shipping - this time you are the merchant. But before you say 'not for me' listen to this. You don't have to see the product, touch the product or even purchase the product that you sell.

This is how it works. You find a product that is available from a wholesaler that you could sell for a profit (I'll show you where to find them later). You set yourself up as a merchant with a website (easier than it sounds, I'll also tell you more about this in a later issue). Then you get visitors to your site, through advertising or search engines like 'Google'.

Every time someone buys, you send the order to the wholesaler, they will send the product to the customer and send you a bill. You pay the bill from the customer's money and the left-over is your profit.

Sounds tedious but there are ways to automate the process to run without you doing much at all. I've never tried drop shipping but done a lot of reading and no some people making over 7 figures with this method (yes, 7 figures!).

OK, these are a few models for you to think about, but that's not all by a long shot. I'm spreading them out over a couple of issues so you have the chance to do a little extra research and think them over.

Just as a gardener prepares his garden beds by tilling, testing the soil, fertilizing, watering and preparing it for his seeds. So must the home business person also prepare his business bed. Do your research on the business you are interested in. Know what they offer, how they pay, what you can expect. However you need to make sure that you do not over fertilize on the endless amount of information. Just know that you, like the gardener will always need to re-test and get more information. Over fertilizing to start with will leave you in confusion and unable to differentiate the best of what you have. Planting seed: Now is when the tomatoes and peppers are started inside. And it is also when you put out information to those that you know personally. This is not really getting the plants in the ground but it is the best way to have a fine harvest. Just like the fact that the tomatoes take so much longer and so need to be started ahead of time so will most of the contacts that you hit at this time. Most of them will want to wait and see how you really do before they jump on board. But as time goes by they will grow. Always remember that even if they do not think much of prospect to start with everyone with time can come around. Realize that the tomato plants produce more fruit in the long run then do some of the fast growers. Now the gardener lines his rows and plots out what seed to put where. He knows that radishes grow fast and so he mixes them into the same row as the slow growing carrots. I am talking of gardeners not farmers that plant whole fields of one crop. Gardeners of any kind plant more then one type of plant. Flower gardeners may plant a rose bed, but they have different varieties of roses. So must the home business have more then one venue. This way you have more then one source to help bring in the income. Choose to start with business that has an auto responder (automatic sprinkler system) with it, this will save you much time for yourself and your family. If you can find one that has advertising included for a time it will save you a small fortune in that area. Defiantly find one that has training if you are new to the game (step by step instructions at this point will save you a lot of money and headaches). Packaged together you can reap more from your investment faster. As your shoots start to grow you will want to put a fence around them to protect them from pests, I have a lot of rabbits and snakes here. For my business this part is not letting people turn me aside from my goal. My business plant may not yet have been what I wanted it to be but I would not let friends and family tell me that since I didn't get rich overnight or in the first week or month that it was doomed a failure. Protect what you have invested your time and money into and it will keep growing and you will have that harvest that you are seeking. If someone tries to tell you that you can get rich really fast without working or putting out any money, look out it may be illegal. Time to do a partial harvest and weed and replant. Lettuce, spinach and radishes have an early harvest. But it is a small harvest because no gardener will plant much of this crop because they do not keep for long, and no one wants to watch their efforts go in the trash can. So you are starting to reap some rewards. Now weed out the dead ends that seem to be in the way and keeping you from your greatest harvest. The gardener will now replant where he has harvested so that he can get more out of the bare area. Sometimes he will replant the same type plant and sometimes something different depending on the research he knows about his garden. You to must replace the dead ends that you have weeded out. Maybe it is just changing from one Nutritional program to one that has a new product and so your chances are better with it. Or maybe you will need to go in a totally new direction, only you can by research know what is best for you at this point. The rewards are now yours. Keep weeding and harvesting, sometimes it takes months to see the full potential of your business garden. You may at times even think that the weeds far outweigh the harvestable plants, but as you keep working you will see that it isn't as bad as you thought. Just believe in yourself and the work that you have put forth and keep growing. I will not try to tell you that it will be easy. Nothing worth having is as easy as someone else makes it seem. All gardens and businesses take time and effort and downright work to see the end harvest. That doesn't mean that you won't reap some really good harvests in the middle but the big harvest takes time to reach. Be patient and make it fun to learn and grow your business you will not regret it. Just as a garden has expenses like the seed, water, a rake, hoe, shovel. So will the business garden. Never fall for something that says it will never cost you anything to grow your business, It is a Lie. Some expenses will be small, some larger. Just remember though that it can be done slow. And you can start with doing some things that are not to expensive. You do not have to be the first ad on Google your first week out. If you have the money for that then by all means do so, but if not take your time and grow your business to that point. Upgrading from free services to the pay services is absolutely great, but don't end up homeless doing it to soon. You can take your time and reap just as great a harvest. Just keep growing forward and you will grow to where everything just flows and is beautiful to you. With the development of various technologies and with low start up costs it has become much easier today for Entrepreneurs to start a Home Based Business. It is estimated that in USA alone there are over 40 million Home Based Businesses. Home Based Businesses represent 63% of all Small Businesses. Furthermore over 75% of these businesses are operated on a part-time basis.

Some of the reasons generally attributed for starting a Home Based Business are; the fulfillment of a dream, the necessity for an additional income or to have a back up income in the event of losing the present secure job. A reason that is more universal is that most people love to own and run a Home Based Business and would like to experience the thrill and excitement of operating a business from home either full- time or part-time. The majority of those who come under the last category are often under the misconception that it needs very little effort to operate a business from home.

If you have an idea of starting a Home Based Business it is advisable that you should start by running it on a part-time basis while continuing to work on your full-time job. There are several very compelling reasons for adopting this part-time business strategy. I shall enumerate the most important ones below.

1. In spite of your enthusiasm and determination to succeed in your Home Based Business, your attempt could end up in failure for various reasons. In such an event you could always fall back on your full-time job. Talking about failure can be disconcerting to some but you have to be prepared for any eventuality.

2. By starting as a part-time business, your investment both in finance and time will naturally be small thus minimizing the risk involved.

3. While in the process of establishing your Home Based Business, you still have to settle your monthly bills. It is the full-time job that can help you tide over this situation especially during the early months of your part-time business. If you start making profits early in your business then build up a reserve fund to start your full-time home based business.

4. The very thought of your having a regular full-time job with a steady income will give you the confidence to take a reasonable amount of risk in your part-time home based business. This will not be possible otherwise.

5. The presence of a full-time job means that you will not be under excess pressure to perform in your pat-time business for your survival. You can learn business skills, acquire business knowledge and grow gradually at your own pace.

6. By holding on to your full-time job you can continue to enjoy the benefits of health insurance, leave and other benefits till you establish yourself in your part-time business.

7. In the event of sustaining loses in your business during the first year or two; these could be written off when submitting your tax returns.

8. It is much easier to obtain bank loans, credit card facilities and other financial benefits for your business while you are in employment. Why not take advantage of this and grow your home based business while you are in employment.

9. If your intention is to become a home based business entrepreneur one day, then make use of your full-time job and lay the foundation for your home based business by making the necessary contacts with people who could be useful to your future business and could also end up as customers. You should of course ensure that your actions do not come in conflict with the Management policies of your employer.

10. Quitting your full-time job one day and starting a full-time home based business the following day could end up in chaos and disaster unless you have very strong support from experienced entrepreneurs. On the other hand if done gradually transition from full time job to full time home based business becomes much easier. Having said the above, it has to be mentioned that there are ofcource certain disadvantages in the method indicated. Doing a full-time job and running a part-time home based business can be strenuous and you can experience burnout and consequently neglect either you business, job or even both. Excessive indulgence in your part-time business can eventually lead to under performing in your full-time job, thereby creating problems with your Boss or Employer. You will have to sacrifice much of your precious family time for the sake of your home based business.

Success in your home based business or for that matter in any business does not come easily. It requires hard work, sacrifice, dedication and determination. Above all you have to be passionate about what you are doing.

Many great businesses have grown from small beginnings including the Giant Amazon.com. Start sowing the seeds of your home based business while you are in employment, watch it germinate, look after it with tender care, be passionate about it and watch it bearing the fruits of your labor. Enjoy the fruits of your labor and when the time is ripe, quit your full time job. That's it, keep growing and establish yourself as a successful home based business entrepreneur. While there are a great many types of home based businesses there also are numerous reasons why people choose to start a home based business. Some of those reasons include:

1. Dissatisfied with their present employment situation.

2. Out of work due to being laid off or downsizing by their employer.

3. A need to be home more with young children, an infirm family member, or aging parents. 4. A yearning to be their own boss. Whatever your particular reason for exploring a home-based business, there are a few common steps you need to take in order to launch your business.

First off, you need to come to grips with reality...be realistic in your expectations. Far too many folks read advertisements that are hype and imply quick money, and lots of it, from a home-based business start-up. It will certainly take a year, and in some cases it may take up to three years, before you begin to truly make a significant profit from your business.

I have helped a large number of people start up their own home-based businesses using the Internet. Over time, I have come to recognize two of the most important factors for identifying people that should NOT start a home based business. If a prospective entrepreneur says something like...

"I'm broke and need to make some money, fast!"

or,

"I want to start a home-based business, but I don't want to spend anything on it until after I start earning some money."

...it is certain that they have not addressed reality and, with that mindset, they will most certainly fail.

It takes a lot of time to successfully market and promote a new business. If you are planning a home-based business in order to spend a lot of time with young children or care for the elderly, a full-time business (and income) may not be a realistic objective.

Second, spend some time researching your business idea. Make sure there is truly enough of a market for your product or service. It's easy to fall into the trap of having a hobby or passion for something that you like to do and just assuming that you can turn it into an economically viable business.

Third, learn as much as you can about small business. There is a wealth of information available on this topic and the US Small Business Administration is probably as good a place to start as any. Just go to http://www.sba.gov/ and navigate to the sections dealing with home based businesses.

Fourth, write a business plan. It is your roadmap to reaching your objectives. There are numerous articles on the Internet and in libraries that can assist you in developing your business plan as well as addressing the many other issues involved with starting and operating a business from home. And last, but not least, seek the advice of a tax professional. Your first reaction may be that you can't afford such expenses right now; but, in reality, you can’t afford not to seek such advice from the very beginning of your home business start-up. Paying for an hour or two of consultation with a tax professional at the beginning will probably save you much more than that amount later on down the road.

I never cease to be amazed at the number of people that seem to think that some magic is somehow created when you put the words "home based" in front of the word "business". It's still business...it just happens to be based in the home.

You've heard about great money making opportunities, which promises great instant wealth with little or no work. You've seen an ad somewhere, or you've been approached by someone, and it tells of a great work from home opportunity. It was all about various get rich money making systems, and you're excited. Finally, you can quit your job, retire rich and retire early!

If you're thinking of working from home by someone else's rules, though, you have to realise that many of the offers out there are scams - Internet business scams, get rich money making system, work from home scams, and others claiming to be scam free work from home. After all, if it was that easy to pay a few dollars and make thousands, wouldn't everyone be doing it by now? Here are the biggest work from scams out there, how to recognise them, say no to them and how to avoid them.

Source of Offer

Where did you see that work from home no scam offer? If you got it in the post, or by email, or saw it on a poster taped around a telephone pole, then I can guarantee you right now that it's not a legitimate offer. If you saw the ad in a newspaper, in a jobs magazine or on a jobs website, then it's a little more likely to be legit - but not much. Always check out any offer, and assume it's a scam until you have iron-clad proof to the contrary.

Envelope Stuffing.

This is the most established work-from-home scam, and no, it's not new, it's been going for decades now. Basically, once you pay your money and sign up free to work from home, you're sent a set of envelopes and ads just like the one you responded to. You might make some money if someone responds to your ad, but eventually there just won't be a market for it any more. Anyway, work from home offers like this are illegal pyramid schemes.

You won't make any money putting letters in envelopes - get over it.

Charging for Supplies.

The practice of charging for supplies is hard to pin down to any one scam - it's the way almost all work-from-home scams work (including the envelope stuffing, above). You'll be asked to make a small "investment" for whatever materials would be needed to do the work, sometimes even for free - and then you'll be sent very shoddy materials that aren't worth anything like what you paid, and you'll find that there's no market for the work anyway.

If anyone asks for money upfront, run. A real company should be willing to deduct any 'fees' from your first pay cheque - if they won't do that for you, then that's because they don't ever plan to pay you. It is their get rich money making system.

Working for Free.

This variation on the work from home scam is common with crafts. You might be asked to work at home making clothes, ornaments or toys. Everything seems legitimate - you've got the free materials without paying out any money, and you're doing the work. Unfortunately for you, when you send the work back, the company will tell you that it didn't meet their 'quality standards', and will refuse to pay you. Then they'll sell on what you made at a profit, and move on to the next sucker.

Never do craft work from home unless you're selling the items yourself. Note that you don't need to be selling to consumers (you could be selling to wholesalers), but you still need to be the one deciding what you make and getting the money.

Home Typing, Medical Billing, and More.

There are lots of work-from-home or internet business scams that involve persuading you that some industry has more work than it can handle, and so has to outsource to people working from home. For example, you might be told that you'd be typing legal documents, or entering medical bills into an electronic database. These scams have one thing in common: they all say that all you need is your computer, and they all then go on to say that you need to buy some 'special software'.

This software might appear to be from a completely unrelated company, but don't be fooled - the whole reason the 'work-from-home' ad was there to begin with was simply as cynical marketing for the software.

As you can see, running a 'home business' that just involves 'working' for one company is a bad idea. You don't know who you're dealing with. Here's the clincher, though: even with entirely legal work-at-home offers that do pay you for your work, you still won't make anywhere near as much as you can with your very own home business. So why bother with them at all?

The idea of starting home business is very exciting, worthwhile and gives you the freedom that you've always dreamed of. But if you do not spend the time necessary to learn the subtleties of each approach in order to start the right way; it can be costly, time-consuming and frustrating.

Where do I start?

It's the most asked and crucial question. If you get the right answer and you start the right way you will succeed. Unfortunately most of new business starters don't know where to go to get the right advices. In consequence they lose everything and give up.

In this article I will share with you what I have learned to date about business rules in hopes of making it easier for you to find the information you're looking for. With this article, I will guide those new to the Internet, what some of the core basics are that you need to consider to prevent your home business from failure and/or becoming just another Dot Com. By reading this article and taking note of some of the points made, you will have a more realistic view of what is involved in not just having a Web site, but creating a successful home business to realize your dreams.

If you want to move on from this question and explore your business idea if you have already an idea then the first thing you need to do is learn. The best thing you can invest your money in is education, educate yourself, and learn everything there is to learn about starting home business. Learning must be a part of your business plan and you must stick to it. There is laterally tons of FREE information available on the net such as business newsletter, ebooks, ezine, ecourses, business mentors, associations, and so on…

Learn general business skills, personnel management, financial management, technical business development. Learn the necessary computer kills; you would need for your job. And even better, learn other skills that you predict would be helpful. You will need them in the near future.

Start by determining your skills.

You should determine your skills, abilities and interests to better define what you need to learn, what kind of business you like. Identify your personal qualities to determine if you are the type of person that should be an entrepreneur. By determining your skills you will determine your learning needs. What kind off skills you need to own. What skills you need to improve and how you are going to improve them. What you don't like to learn, etc…

To do just that acquire from 2 to 3 weeks to learn about everything you come across. Study some sites, ask questions, etc…

Determine initial learning length.

To reach any medium or long-range goal, your first step should generally be to break it down into a series of short-range goals. So, we will begin by doing the same here.

Once you have determined your learning needs it's time to determine your learning length. Learning length more than necessary does not result in an appropriate learning effect. Therefore, it is necessary to determining an appropriate balance.

Remember, you can't stay all your life learning. Time is gold. You can learn by doing. Then, learn just what you need to start a business. Don't try to learn every thing deeply. If you try probably you will never start your business.

Once you have an idea about what you need to learn create a plan. Create a plan that will guide you trough the most important steps of the process. As you advance in your learning and skills, you may find reason to change your plan. Remember that you can always change it. This is a plan just for you, so change it or update it as you feel the need.

Be realistic when you write your plan and stick with it. If you don't you can't progress in your program.

Depending on your skills, your knowledge about the business you want to create and your free time; schedule your time accordingly and decide:

- How many hour you should study in a day/ week. - How long you will study. - What topic you want to learn about. - Do you need to learn about personnel management, financial management, technical business development or the necessary computer kills?

Reading is the best WAY to gain knowledge. Knowledge is Power! With the Internet becoming more and more accessible to everyone, you have now even more reading materials to choose from. Use your favorite search engines to search for things that interest you.

- Attain seminars, discussion forums, discussion boards, etc… about the subject of your interest.

- Listen to what the experts say concerning subjects that may interest you. You will gain new viewpoints and ideas this way.

- Ask your friends, family and relatives. People are a great source of information. Go to bookstore and buy business books. There are so many great business books to get you started.

- Talk to the other business people. Learn from successful business people; learn from their success and failure.

- Don't be afraid to ask for help. Prepare questions in advance to make sure the interview meets your objectives.

- You can contact, small business centers, local councils; government grants, business adviser, government programs for unemployed people to get started in business.

These entire places will give you the information you need to get started. Information from licenses, regulations, business plans, business structures, finance, taxations, and so on the list is endless.

Be self-disciplined & self-motivated; be prepared to work hard; devote more time to your business.

This is your first step in starting home business. Take it seriously, don't be in rush and take the necessary time that will allow you to master awesome techniques, tips and tricks for creating, running and managing your business.
