New Study Shows Close Friends & Family Tend to Gain Weight Together, But Can Also Lose it Together
The Challenge aims to reach its ambitious goal by bringing people together & making it easier for millions to get fit, lose weight & turn back the epidemic of excess weight & deadly weight-related diseases that threaten half of all Americans. The power of the strong support network The Challenge is building for participants got some strong support of it's own from a recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine. It found that close friends & family set a powerful example for each other -- they tend to gain weight together, but show just as strong a propensity to lose weight together. The need to set more positive examples was never clearer.
Each week 10,000 people die from illnesses related to inactivity and diet. Today, 135 million Americans and 2/3rds of U.S. adults are overweight -- double the rate a few decades ago-making their lifestyle choices a matter of life and death. The African-American community has been particularly hard hit, losing too many loved ones to heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer & related illnesses. Among African Americans, 80% of women and 67% of men face increased risk of deadly illnesses from excess weight.
"This is an historic opportunity to join hands as a community, take control of our health and save lives," said Dr. Ian, author of the NY Times #1 best-seller Extreme Fat Smash Diet. "The groundswell of support is remarkable. More than 190,000 people have joined and lost 440,000 pounds. Chicago can help us pass the half million pound mark! What began as a simple challenge has become a commitment spreading across the entire community. Losing weight & getting in shape has never been easier, or more important. Too many are dying from preventable illnesses. The Challenge encourages and empowers people to get fit and give up the pounds that have frustrated so many for so long. It helps us take a giant leap forward towards leading longer, healthier lives."
To mobilize support and fight back, the campaign is hosting events from April go November in 14 cities: Washington DC, Baltimore, Miami, Memphis, Cleveland, Houston, Detroit, Atlanta, St. Louis, Chicago, New York, Milwaukee, Oakland and New Orleans. The campaign has enlisted as champions more than 50 leaders and celebrities from the African-American community, and national civic & health organizations including the American Diabetes Association, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Inc., 100 Black Men of America Inc., National Urban League, American Council on Exercise, and Institute for the Advancement of Multicultural & Minority Medicine.
"We're coming to Chicago to help people take control of their health, make healthier lifestyle choices and give up the pounds, not the fight," said Dr. Ian. "We gained the weight together. We can take it off together. Looking out for each other, we can reverse these deadly health trends, one small step at a time. So join us in taking The Challenge. It's free. It's fun. The reward is worth the weight -- it can save your life, and you'll look and feel great!"
Challenge supporter and Grammy-winning hip hop star Common, said, "We've all got so much power and potential to lift ourselves up, make our voices heard and plant seeds that can change our lives forever. Too many people are selling themselves and their lives short by not taking care of their health or staying true to who they are. And their forever can be over before it's even started. It's time we got concerned. It's time we took action. If we want to become what we know we can be, we need to liberate our bodies and liberate our souls. We need to take on the responsibility of using our freedom to make smart choices in our lives. The Challenge is helping us take back forever by taking control of our health. It's helping us make smarter choices in the food we eat, the shape were in and the lives we lead. If we have faith in ourselves, God and each other, there's no limit to what we can achieve."
Challenge supporter and Grammy-nominated soul star Musiq Soulchild said, "I'm honored that I can use my influence to bring attention and raise awareness to the cause of being healthy. I think that everyone should want to do the same. You only have one body. It would be wise to take care of it."
Signing up for The Challenge is easy, free and anyone can join at http://www.50millionpounds.com/, a go-to resource and online community where participants can see the total pounds lost by everyone taking The Challenge. It offers free tips and tools that make it easier for people to get fit and reach their healthy weight -- there's even a private personal weight tracker to measure their own progress. Free Challenge kits are available, with a CD and brochure from Dr. Ian with menu and fitness advice, and a pedometer to measure steps.

Hey friend's! Now there is a easiest way to control your weight "WEIGHT CONTROL HYPNOSIS". Its smell, taste, looks! Wow! Not only me but no one can keep away from eating them. Sometime it's very hard to keep away from them and after long efforts of dieting if someday we eat any of them, then you can understand what happens? You are lost in the feeling of discomfort and guilt. In this age of technology where we need not do anything physically, day by day our physical activities have become lesser. That's why whatever we eat; it accumulates in the form of fat in our body due to less physical activities. Resulting, we begin to diet which almost fails because in dieting you fight with your desires and with your self, where, you lose and desires win. Obviously, if you try to stop your self then your mind will follow more to that. Secondly, today's life is so fast that we don't have time to think what we have to eat or what not? We work late at nights and go early to the office and in this short time whatever is readily available we eat it, without considering whether this food is healthy for us or not?
Thirdly, the more we get addicted to comforts, the farther we go from physical exercises. Our comfortable and luxurious life is making us lazy, that's why we are getting neutral towards exercises and we deceive ourselves that we don't have time to invest 40-50 min. in exercises.
Something should be done for this, after all Health is wealth. If the title of this article shocks you, well it was meant to. Many women spend hours and hours each week working up a sweat by walking, running or using a machine like the Elliptical Trainer. They end up spending all of their devoted exercise time to aerobic conditioning, which leaves no time remaining for anaerobic workouts.
They in return end up spinning their wheels. They’re stuck at the same weight with little or no positive movement toward their weight loss and fitness goals. Yet, if just a couple of short strength training sessions were added to replace some of their cardio workout time, they could break-through plateaus and reap a wealth of health benefits.
There are many, many benefits to strength training. It has the potential to:
• Lower resting heart rate
• Reduce blood pressure
• Improve cholesterol profiles
• Reduce intra-abdominal fat, which in turn can help lower the risk of heart disease, diabetes and hypertension
• Help preserve bone mass
• Increase calories burned which helps promote weight loss
Unfortunately, many women are still either uneducated about the amazing benefits of strength training and/or afraid that they will bulk up and therefore they avoid resistance exercises. According to a study published in 2006 by Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, only 17.5% of adult women performed strength training.
As shown above, there are numerous reasons why women should begin incorporating strength training into their workout routines today! But as history has shown, benefits such as preventing diseases and improving overall health are not usually the driving force behind change. Visible and measurable physical improvements such as a decrease in the scale tend to be the most motivational. So, let’s take a closer look at how strength training helps promote weight loss.
Moderate aerobic exercise, such as walking, has a metabolic cost of 5-7 per minute on average (in other words, it burns 5-7 calories). Moderate to vigorous strength trainings has a nearly equal metabolic cost at 5-8 per minute. So both walking and strength training can promote an equal amount of calories burned during the actual activity. But, there’s an extra benefit to strength training: you burn calories after you’ve stopped working out! Resistance training recruits both slow and fast twitch muscle fibers so the metabolic rate stays elevated longer. This means that you are burning calories long after you’ve stopped working out. One study showed an increase in metabolic rate even the next day post exercise. The study also showed that 24-hour post-exercise fat oxidation after strength training increased by an amazing 93%.
The benefits are both proven and clear, but some women still fear that they will get big, bulky looking muscles and look more masculine then they prefer. This really is a myth. In reality women simply do not have the necessary quantities of testosterone to build muscles like a man. It is a rare case when a woman has the potential for above average hypertrophy (increase in muscle size).
Also, often times a woman adds strength training to her exercise regimen and begins to see the numbers on her scale go up instead of down. This is immediately seen as a failure to many and the abandonment of the program occurs. In this case, using the scale to determine progress can be very misleading. An increase does not necessarily indicate fat has been gained. The exact opposite is more likely the cause. Muscle tissue weighs more by volume than fat tissue. A pound of fat occupies 18% more space than a pound of muscle.
Since women tend to correlate success and the scale readings so closely, it is highly recommended that women simply not weigh themselves regularly, Instead they should use other measurements, such as body fat percentage to gage progression. It’s very common for women to actually weigh their self-esteem when stepping on the scale rather than tracking their true health improvements.
Now that you know how important strength training is to overall health, here are some tips for getting started:
• Don’t go overboard and abandon your cardio sessions. Aerobic exercise is equally important and should be done 3-5 times per week.
• Start by adding in two strength training sessions per week.
• Choose weight sizes that will fatigue your muscle after about 8 repetitions
• Select exercises that will work all of your major muscles

Do methods slimming salons use work? How about the fat loss pills that 'burn up to 2000 kilocalories per day'? Well, in most cases, people don't even eat up to 2000 kilocalories when they're trying to lose fat. Quote from Singapore Health Promotion Board's Nutrition FAQ: The use of slimming products may lead to relatively fast weight loss initially. Many slimming products contain bioactive substances that suppress appetite, stimulate metabolism or induce water loss from the body. It is not safe to use these products without medical supervision. Moreover, slimming products are usually expensive and do not help change the overweight individual's eating and exercise behaviors that are the root causes of weight gain. This makes maintenance of weight loss difficult. Enough said. With regards to numerous slimming salons using body wraps, infrared or electro stimulation devices etc - must you really be educated to realise that all these don't work? Please don't fall victim to their intensive marketing tactics. If they really work, why do they spend so much money on advertisements mostly showing astonishing 'before' and 'after' pictures and slim figures of celebrities but little or no scientific information about their fat loss devices? Wait. Didn¡¦t recent TV programs show normal Singaporeans losing weight after visiting beauty salons? How do you explain that? Well, these slimming salons know their stuffs don¡¦t work, so now they¡¦re getting smart enough to recruit some personal trainers and nutritionists to ¡¥preach¡¦ healthy living. So on top of their dubious fat loss gimmicks (where the real bucks are rolling in), they have their clients exercise and diet. Without a doubt, exercise and diet worked, and weight loss resulted. At www.PT.com.sg we offer the same services (without the body wrap nonsense of course!) at a fraction of the cost. Seriously, only lazy people wanting a quick fix would visit these salons. But the thing is that they don't even provide a quick fix! You'll only get ripped of. Here's a very informative report compiled by the Federal Trade Commission of the United States Of America - Deception In Weight-Loss Advertising Workshop: Seizing Opportunities and Building Partnerships to Stop Weight-Loss Fraud. A panel of experts discusses and analyses claims made by manufacturers, citing scientific references to show how these claims are false and misleading the public. The claims include:1. Consumers who use the advertised product can lose substantial weight without reducing caloric intake and/or increasing their physical activity2. Consumers who use the advertised product can lose substantial weight while still enjoying unlimited amounts of high calorie foods3. The advertised product will cause permanent weight loss4. The advertised product will cause substantial weight loss through the blockage of absorption of fat or calories5. Consumers who use the advertised product can safely lose more than three pounds per week for a period of more than four weeks6. Users can lose substantial weight though the use of the advertised product that is worn on the body or rubbed into the skin7. The advertised product will cause substantial weight loss for all users 8. Consumers who use the advertised product can lose weight only from those parts of the body where they wish to lose weight Find them familiar? Read them in ads on the papers or on television lately? Please do take time to read the full report: Losing fat ain't easy. Nobody said it is. Only hard work and smart dieting will help you achieve your goals. Another important key is to change your eating behaviors and adapt to healthy eating so that the weight will be put off for good. Please do show your friends and family the reports and help to prevent any more fellow Singaporeans from falling into the traps of these useless companies! References Muris, T. J., Thompson, M. If you have difficulty getting through the afternoon and evening without overeating, you are not alone. The key to managing stress is managing your energy level.
The hardest time of the day for most people is in the middle to late afternoon. Around 3:00 or 4:00 P.M. we enter the time of day that Japanese researchers have called the "breaking point."
By studying brain-wave readings throughout the day, they found 2 distinct kinds of rhythms. The breaking point occurs when the low phases of both rhythms coincide, multiplying their effect.
It is when our bodies physiologically start to transition toward its recuperative phase sleep.
The result is one of the deepest lows of the day.
The "breaking point" is experienced as the feeling of decreased alertness, deep fatigue and the need for rest and recovery in the late afternoon hours.
You know the feeling struggling to push through the sluggishness at that time of day when you really wish you could go home and take a nap.
It's easy to reach for food to try to manage our mood and energy levels. Those are simply extra calories. It's not really what you need.
There IS a need.
It's just not a FOOD need.
The "breaking point" CAN be managed with a little planning . . . and your willingness to take time out.
How well you manage it determines how well the rest of the day goes.
Remember . . . diets are broken in the late afternoon and evening.
It is best to use this time for restorative activities, such as rest, reading, listening to music or meditation.
If you can, take a 20-minute break at that time. Even take a nap if you can. You will feel SO much better (with less urges to overeat) for the rest of the night.
When you can't take a break, take a mini-break. Even 3-5 minutes helps. Any break in concentrated work brings some restorative relief.
Do activities that don't require a lot of concentration organize your desk, do some breathing exercises, or get up and take a 5-minute walk.
Give your mind a break remember when the teacher told you to put your head down on your desk? It's a break in mind-directed activity. And a necessary respite in your day.
DON'T use the time to plan your day or think about what you will say in your next meeting.
Use the time to REST, relax and reconnect to yourself and your needs.
Above all, pay attention to your mind-body cues. The goal is to change your mental pace.
I recently heard someone say "If I have a lot to do, I just eat my way through it."
DON'T use food to push through the day. But instead, honor your body and the signals it is giving you.

Obesity, or being over weight, is a condition in which having too much fat in the body may pave the way for other diseases. Obese people have a high risk getting various diseases like heart disease, diabetes and arthritis. Obesity is nowadays a serious public health problem. The United States has the highest rate of obesity in the world. According to the latest statistics, 32.2% of people who were above the age of 20 years were over weight. The number of obese people is increasing at a steady rate and showing no signs of stability. There are many causes of obesity like lack of activity, lower relative cost of food, increased food production and changes in lifestyle. Doctors say that losing body weight will help two out of every three people in the United States. Losing body weight can put many diseases away. Obese people always have greater risks of getting a heart attack. Being over weight increases the amount of cholesterol in the blood. This cholesterol gets deposited in the blood vessels and narrows them, so that blood does not flow to the heart properly. Due to lack of blood, the heart is deprived of oxygen and eventually fails to function. This causes heart attack. Taking the negative effects that being over weight can cause, it is very advised to take measures to decrease body weight.
Exercising for about 20 minutes a day helps to burn out the excess fat in the body. Exercise can involves light jogging, running or aerobics. During exercise, the cells of the body utilize the fat for producing energy and so the fat gets depleted resulting in body weight loss. Controlling the diet is also very much important. Junk food should be avoided at all costs as these contain a large amount of fats. Changing lifestyle is the best solution to obesity.
Martial arts have been known to be very effective in reducing body weight. Martial arts involve a variety of techniques to overpower an opponent and learning these techniques involves a lot of physical exercise to the body. Joining a local martial arts club may be very effective. It is very a necessity to be physically fit to learn martial arts. Physical fitness will be acquired during training. Regular training in martial arts like judo, karate and jujitsu will improve agility and make one perfect. They are also known to improve confidence and will power. Confidence and will power are very much necessary during the weight loss program. So martial can be an effective means of losing body weight.

Fitness has evolved tremendously since the early days of round cement dumbbells and jump ropes. Now all the luxuries of home are provided for you in your workout experience, to help make it more convenient, enjoyable and have it feel less like, well, working out, as possible. Cardio machines now come equipped with numerous amenities, from personal televisions to fans. People now can seclude themselves from the rest of the world with head phones that connect to televisions’ as they workout. Strength equipment has also advanced with more user friendly resistance machines that provide every possible way in which to target a muscle.
Yes, our society has defiantly advanced, at least in terms of the equipment we use. However, some how, even with all of our technological advances we are still more over weight and obese than ever. Many people sit and wonder to themselves how could it be that movie stars can obtain and maintain such fit and beautiful bodies? They have access to much of the same technological advances as the rest of us do in our fitness centers and home equipment. After all, is it not about how much you do and not what you do? This is far from the truth; movie stars, models, performers, their just like you and me. They have cravings, they get too tired to workout and they have access to similar equipment. So again, how is it that with their hectic schedules, being constantly bombarded with rich foods, and being only human, that they can look so good, all the time! The answer is that they have access to something most people do not, a great personal trainer! I know what people will be thinking when they read this, I can’t afford a personal trainer or I don’t have time to meet on a regular basis with someone. Online personal training is the solution to much of the nations’ health problems.
Online personal training can provide people with the direction they need to help them reach their goals. If your family is overweight and at risk for obesity-related illnesses such as diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure, etc., you may be able to make a big difference in their health with a few simple changes:
1. Turn off the TV. Many families turn on the TV as soon as they get up in the morning, and don’t turn it off until everyone goes to bed. Why live your lives through TV characters? Except for homework, limit your total screen time (TV, computer and video games) to no more than 2 hours a day, and use the remaining time to be active. You don’t necessarily have to play sports or work out, but take a walk, rake leaves, play with the dog, or just stay inside and clean house, put on some music and dance, have a pillow fight, etc. The main thing is to keep moving instead of being couch potatoes.
2. Make water your family’s beverage of choice. Too much juice, too many soft drinks, or too much beer can make everyone fat. You don’t have to ban all other beverages from your life, just save them for outside the home on special occasions--and even then, drink regular size instead of super-size. Make sure juice is 100% natural, and limit it to one 6-ounce glass a day.
3. Limit fast food or pizza delivery to once a week. I know you are tired after working all day or running the kids around to all their activities, but fast food is a fast track to obesity. Cheeseburgers, French fries, and giant drinks are loaded with calories and fat. Have your own fast food with pre-washed, bagged salad greens, and pre-cut fruit and veggies. Frozen crock pot dinners can be started in the morning; prepared meat loaves or other prepared meat dishes can be cooked quickly in the microwave. Frozen vegetables only take a few minutes to cook. Sit down at the table to eat, and get to know each other.
4. Make sure everyone gets enough sleep. Studies have shown definite connections between too little sleep and obesity. Children need at least 9-11 hours; adults usually need 7-8 hours. When you don’t get enough sleep, you are often too tired to exercise, too groggy to concentrate at work or school, and less apt to eat breakfast. Which brings me to point 5:
5. Never skip breakfast! Forget about doughnuts, toaster pastries, and pre-sweetened cereals. Instead, have 1-minute oatmeal or cold cereal that is not pre-sweetened, along with a piece of fruit or some berries. Prepare hard boiled eggs while you clean up after dinner, and refrigerate for a quick breakfast. Natural peanut butter on whole wheat toast or bread is quick and nutritious. Grab a glass of fat-free milk and go!
You don’t even have to diet! Just make the above changes, and you will soon see a big difference in the health and weight of your whole family!

Want to know how to reduce weight fast and lose that weight forever? Here are the 10 steps you need to do to reduce weight and keep ugly body fat away permanently.
1) Cardio Exercises Do your cardio exercises frequently. These can be any exercises that work up your heart rate to the extent that you are huffing and puffing for at least 20 30 minutes. Do your cardio exercises 5-6 times a week if you want to reduce weight or 2-3 times a week for weight maintenance.
2) Build Muscles Muscles burn calories even when you are not doing anything but resting. The more muscle mass you have the more calories you will burn a day and in the course of over a period of time, the calories you burnt will add up very substantially. Building muscle mass is one sure way of losing body fat forever.
3) Eat Carbs Early Take your meals with carbs earlier in the day and cut down on carbs on later meals. This is to prevent unused carbs from turning into body fat when you sleep and to regulate insulin level.
4) Don’t be too afraid of fats The fats in your diet that are bad for you are saturated and trans fat. So replace these bad fats with unsaturated fat and essential fatty acids (EFAs) and these good fats will keep your body fat and fat related diseases down. But do take your fats in moderation as after all, they are still calorie laden.
5) Complex Carbs Choose your carbs. Avoid starchy and refined carbs such as pasta, pizza, white rice and white bread. Replace them with brown rice, brown bread and high fiber carbs like green leafy vegetables.
6) Food Portion Decide how much you want to eat at each meal and then keep to it and do not eat anymore when that portion is consumed. Eat slowly to let your body signal to your brain that you are full. This usually takes about 20 minutes. Extra food means extra and calories mean extra body fat if the food is not converted to energy.
7) Avoid Canned Or Boxed Food These food are usually high in trans fat, sodium, sugar and simple carbs all of which will help you to gain weight and body fat.
8) Eat Often By eating often, say at every 3 hourly intervals, your body will think that food is abundant and therefore less likely to store body fat for emergency such as a famine. But do bear in mind to keep the portion small so as not to consume more calories than you expand.
9) Get 8 Hours Sleep Research after research has shown that people with less sleep are more prone to being fat.
10) Do Not Skip Meals Skipping meals will slow your metabolism and forcing your body to use your muscles for energy instead of your body fat. This is a vicious cycle, the less muscle you have, the more your metabolism slows down.
There you are. By committing to these 10 step guide, not only will you reduce weight but will lose your body fat forever

Eliminate Negative Thoughts and Lose Weight.
You think thousands of thoughts each day. You talk to yourself more than anyone else. You are your most trusted advisor and confidant. Many of the conversations that you have with yourself you would never share with anyone else because to do so would expose the "real" you. The you that is filled with self doubt, worries, sadness, guilt, hurts and disappointments.
But this is not the "real you" at all. This is the you that your ego and belief systems have constructed. These negative beliefs have been constructed by you, and accepted by you as truth. The sad thing is that nothing can be further from the truth.
Where did these false ideas about you originate? They mostly came from others; parents, teachers, co-workers, and friends. They might have planted the seed by saying something like "she is fat" and you have cultivated those comments to the point that they have become your truth.
You are allowing your entire life to be controlled by some obscure comments made years ago. Nobody has the right or power to dictate who you are. Only you know who you truly are and what's in your heart.
When you were born you entered this world without the burdens of you current negative belief system. You entered this world as a beautiful bundle of joy filled with unlimited potential and possibilities.
I'm here to tell you that you have not changed. You are still and will always be a beautiful bundle of joy with unlimited potential and possibilities.
The only difference is what you give your attention to. Let me ask you a question. If you stopped all the negative talk that you currently have with yourself such as; - I'm too fat - Why would anyone want to love me - I will never be thin - I always fail
And the list can go on and on How would you feel ? Do you think that you would feel emotionally lighter ? Do you think that you would feel happier ? Do you think that you would feel more confident ?
Now how do you think your life would change if you were to go one step further and modify your self talk by only speaking positively about yourself. If you take some time and focus on what you like about yourself and focus on only that your emotional state will become positive to the point that you will be able to accomplish anything.
Once you begin looking for the positive things within you, you will be surprised to realize your magnificence has always been there just below the surface. You have never been anything other then that shining bundle of joy that entered the world years ago. It's easy to uncover positive aspects of yourself by asking some questions. - What am I good at? - Who has benefited by me being in the world? - Who am I, what is in my heart that only I know? - What do I like about my body?
Your goal is to feel good now. How do you feel now? If you only observe what you feel is positive about you, you will feel good, you will be happy. Decide right here and right now how you want to feel. Decide that you will always look for the good within you and appreciate that goodness. So what does all of this have to do with losing weight? Everything!!! Your emotional state is the control valve that determines what you draw into your experience. How you talk to yourself creates your beliefs and programs your subconscious. So you need to ask yourself do you want your beliefs and subconscious programming to be based on false negative thinking. Or do you want your beliefs to be based on the truth, that you are and always have been a perfect being.
Begin today to love and nurture yourself. Allow the joy, playfulness and enthusiasm that you naturally had as a child begin to flow into your everyday experiences. Allow yourself to celebrate each and every success no matter how small. Love and appreciate yourself every opportunity you have. Do this everyday and watch your weight begin to dissolve just as your old negative beliefs about yourself begin to dissolve.

There is a strong possibility that whoever reads this article is looking into ways of losing weight. In this article I describe how I went about losing my excess weight. I hope you enjoy the read.
I have had many problems with my weight throughout my life. Being overweight had a major negative effect on my confidence and made me feel down and at times depressed. When feeling low, I would comfort eat which merely added to the problem.
A few years ago I decided I had had enough of being fat and that it was time to do something about it. I was now more determined than ever to lose some of my excess weight. I had read about many different types of diet most of which I felt were not suitable for me and others which sounded disgusting.
What I required was my own type of weight loss program. I have never liked the thought of attending a gym, they seem to be full of thin people, however I knew that exercise would need to be a factor. Instead, I started to walk a lot more instead of driving everywhere, I also started to play football and tennis again. The thought of going out jogging did not really appeal to me, however I did buy an exercise bike which I kept in my bedroom.
As well as exercise, I also realised that I had to change my eating habits. I am somebody who likes to eat all the wrong types of food. I love all types of take away including pizzas, a curry, a Chinese, and chips. I would always be snacking in between meals, on things like peanuts and crisps. I also was rather partial to alcohol, this is something which helped me to gain confidence.
The thought of cutting all of these things out of my life seemed too harsh, so I decided that I would start to write down everything I ate. This way I could see exactly what I could cut out.
This is what I decided to eat on average per day.
I would eat a healthy breakfast such as toast or cereal. I would try not to eat any snacks in between any meals, this was the thing that would be most difficult to stick to. I did however come up with a plan which you will probably think is daft. Whenever I felt hungry or a desire for food I would eat a polo mint or if I was at home, would clean my teeth. Sounds crazy but it worked for me!
For lunch I would also stick to something healthy like pasta, however for my evening meal, I decided that I could eat anything that I wanted, including curry. On the weekend I would always treat myself to a takeaway and would allow myself some alcohol.
This type of diet needs a lot of discipline and character, however it has helped me to become a lot more confident and happy with life.
Good luck.

"Right, that's it, I'm starting a diet on Monday!"
How often have you said that to yourself? And how many times have you decided that this year will be the one you finally lose weight?
Do you know what goes wrong when you start a new regime full of enthusiasm only to ditch it within a few days or weeks?
One reason might be that you aren't mentally and physically prepared to make it happen. You have the best possible chance to succeed only by preparing yourself properly.
Good preparation means:-
1. Knowing your target
What do you actually want to achieve? How much weight do you want to lose and by when? Check that your target is realistic by aiming for no more than 1 to 2lbs a week on average.
2. Choosing a strategy
How will you lose that weight? A vague notion of eating less will not get you there. Choose a system to follow that fits in with your lifestyle and preferences or plan your own system from the knowledge and experience you have of what works best for you.
3. Making Plans
Decide what actions you need to take to be ready to follow your chosen system on day one. What do you need to buy? What do you need to find out? Who do you need to talk to to get support?
Write your plans down so that you can check the actions off as you complete them and then start taking those actions. If you need to look for recipes or shop for special foods, do that now. If you have decided to join a gym, visit and join and have your introductory session. If you need walking shoes or a tennis racquet get it now.
4. Building your Personal Motivational tools
Taking action to prepare yourself will put you in the right frame of mind to start your weight loss program when you intend to. Of course, it gets harder as you go along. Motivation dwindles for many people very quickly without regular input.
While your motivation is still high, write down a list of all the reasons you have for wanting to lose weight - a list you can refer to again and again if the going gets tough later on.
Also spend some time thinking about how you will look and feel and how your life will be when you succeed. Write down a full description as a second motivational booster for when you need it.
5. Committing to make it happen
By going through the planning stage you will become aware of the effort involved in losing weight. Are you prepared to commit to the changes you will need to make and the actions you'll need to take? Are you willing to do what it takes to achieve the benefits?
Many people start a weight loss program or diet without thinking this through.
If you're not prepared to follow your chosen strategy there's no point in starting. You're setting yourself up for failure and another blow to your self-esteem.
But if you know what you are planning to do, you're fully aware of what's involved and you're willing to give it time and energy and to make it a priority in your life you WILL succeed. So think it all through, consider the pros and cons and decide whether you're prepared to make those changes before you begin.

We all know there is a problem with the Standard American Diet (SAD). But we
are all confused about all the different diet solutions out there. After
studying all the diets from Aromatrim to The Zone as a current Nutrition
Research Assistant at Ekaya Institute of Living Food Education (E.I.L.F.E) I
have come to realize what I do know for sure and what I don't.
For sure, the current Standard American Diet is toxic. Junk food, fast food,
processed food, packaged food, factory-farmed food, produce grown in
chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides, and known
toxins such as alcohol, coffee, and sugar, are for sure bad for your body.
Meat and dairy are toxic and therefore probably also bad for you. When I say
meat and dairy are toxic I'm looking at the fact that you can not eat them
raw. This means that these foods are crawling with harmful bacteria that
need to be killed by heating the foods. To my common sense this invalidates
meat and dairy as foods fit for human consumption. If you can't eat it raw,
if you have to cook it and kill it to eat it, then it isn't meant to be your
food. Food is fruit that grows on trees. The Creator gave us trees for
breathing, housing, and eating. Trees are our true cousins here on earth.
Food is vegetation coming from the ground. These are full of nutrients,
vitamins and minerals from the earth, the sun, the air, and the rain. These
are definitely food. Should we eat animals? I'm not sure but I do remember
reading somewhere that "Thou Shalt Not Kill". Should we eat dairy? I don't
know. Does it make sense to consume a food that was designed to grow a baby
calf into a 1000 lb. animal? Personally, I suspect that dairy is harmful to
the human body.
However, your own beliefs and the collective beliefs of humanity do have a
huge effect on your health. If people believe that meat and dairy are good
for you, then they probably are. If they believe that meat and dairy are
harmful for you, then they probably are. It depends in part on your own
beliefs, and it depends in part on the beliefs of the collective human race.
Furthermore, your beliefs have an effect on the beliefs of the collective
and the beliefs of the collective have an effect on your beliefs. And at
this moment there is a major shifting of beliefs going on. If you are strong
in your own beliefs you can withstand and even influence the collective. It
seems as though the collective, the critical mass of the collective human
race, is shifting to a view that meat and dairy are not healthy to eat. Now,
perhaps the truth of the matter is that The Creator and his fabulous crew
did not make meat and dairy to be our food. Or the truth of the matter might
be that they did intend it to be our food. However as I believe that we live
on a basically good planet that is evolving in the right direction ever
towards the good (despite the political and social events that would make it
seem otherwise) I would place my bets that this shift away from meat and
dairy is a change for the better towards a truer and clearer reality.
What I do know for sure is that we should avoid known toxins and chemicals.
All packaged food has chemical preservatives, stabilizers, and flavoring.
These are very harmful. This I know. All food that is not organically grown
is grown using chemicals that harm the human body. This I know.
Factory-farmed animals are sick and should not be eaten. This I know for
sure. Can we live on unheated exclusively vegan (no meat and dairy) food? I
know that my family is thriving on a raw-vegan diet. I see my husband who
has eaten no meat or dairy for over 30 years thriving and aging much less
rapidly than his peers. If you do eat meat, eat only organic meat. If you do
consume dairy, consume only organic dairy. If you do eat cooked food make
it from scratch with organic ingredients.
Here is my "What I Know For Sure About Healthy Eating Chart":
FOR SURE BAD:
coffee
alcohol
sugar
processed food
commercial (non-organic) produce
fast food
junk food
PROBABLY BAD:
meat
dairy
any heated foods
dehydrated foods
FOR SURE GOOD:
organic fresh fruit
organic fresh vegetables
organic germinated nuts
organic germinated seeds
MAYBE GOOD:
organic sprouted grains
fermented foods
supplements
Obviously, avoid the "for sure bad" foods and eat as much as you can of the
"for sure good" foods. Live on the "for sure good" foods if you can. If you
feel they are good, experiment with the "maybe good" foods. And if you must,
eat a limited amount of the "probably bad" foods.
With all the diets out there, and all the many versions of vegetarian, vegan
and raw-vegan diets being pushed now, you really have to learn to rely on
your own intuition and experience. In fact, with the state of the media,
corporate power, and the political arena today we need to develop this
ability to trust ourselves in all things. Eating according to the above
chart, exercising, getting out into nature (or better yet exercising in
nature), getting sufficient sleep, staying happy and grateful, maintaining a
relationship with a Higher Power, loving and being loved, and doing work you
feel good about will all help you to become more in tune with your body and
its messages regarding what it likes to eat. Listening and acting on these
messages puts you on a path to greater self-awareness, an awareness that not
only tunes you in to knowing what foods are good for you and what you should
and shouldn't eat at any given moment, but that also spans your mental,
emotional, and spiritual growth. This is because your body, mind and spirit
are not separate, but are working constantly together for your greatest good
and the simultaneous greatest good of the Universe.

"The Top 7 Diets in the World", an article on "Medical News Today" on February 11th cited The Raw Foods Diet as being amongst the seven most popular diets in the world today, along with The Atkins Diet, The Zone Diet, and the Macrobiotic Diet.
What the heck is the Raw Foods diet, where did it come from and why is it suddenly so popular?
Raw Food Educator Jinjee Talifero at the Ekaya Institute of Living Food Eduction (E.I.L.F.E.) (http://www.thegardendiet.com) believes that the Raw Foods diet has become a major trend due to the Internet, where there are literally thousands of articles, bulletin boards, and websites where raw foods advocates share with others the many ways in which they have improved their health through this diet. People around the world claim to have healed themselves of everything from acne, asthma and multiple sclerosis to cancer, heart disease and diabetes by consuming only unheated fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and juices and avoiding all heated foods.
The online raw food community has generated a slew of books about raw foods. A search for "Raw Food" on Amazon.com yields 355 books on the subject. David Wolfe, author of several books on raw foods appears on Sci-Fi Channel's Mad Mad House this spring. Roxanne's, a 5-Star Raw Food Restaurant in Larkspur California has a 6 week waiting list for reservations. Countless celebrities and Hollywood Industry trend-setters such as Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson, Alicia Silverstone and Angela Bassett have all embraced the Raw Foods Diet. And famous Chef Charlie Trotter's book "Raw" will be available in May.
Unlike Atkins and the Zone there is no best-selling raw food book or central figure in the movement. There is no large corporate interest such as a big publisher or a vitamin manufacturer providing money to promote the raw food diet. But somehow this diet has crept from a little known secret of enlightenment-seeking initiates such as Shaolin Monks and Essene Priests to a leading-edge lifestyle being accepted worldwide.
The raw food diet is based on eating only unheated foods. According to the FDA heated fats become trans-fats, heated proteins are potential free-radicals, and heated carbohydrates contain numerous toxins. Heating also damages the vitamins, enzymes and nutrients in foods. So when we eat heated foods we are not only lacking nourishment but we are in fact taking toxic substances into our body. The raw food diet is considered radical and extreme because mankind has been eating primarily cooked food for millions of years. It is interesting to wonder whether if we prove this practice to have been in error we will be able to alter our course as a species and perhaps improve our lot in life.
Since raw meat and dairy are unsafe, the raw food diet does not allow these foods. A raw food diet consists of unheated fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and sprouted grains. Rather than being boring, raw food dieters claim that there are 1000's of recipes you can make with these basic foods. Other raw food eaters claim that there is no need for recipes because you become so sensitive on the raw diet that a simple piece of raw fruit or a raw vegetable tastes and satisfies better than a gourmet meal. Most raw food advocates agree that it is important to eat only organic food to avoid chemicals present in commercially grown produce and because it tastes better.
Talifero sells 8 raw food eBooks on her website at http://www.thegardendiet.com based on the experiences and example of her husband Storm who has been consuming a raw food diet for over 30 years. Storm, who is 54, has the physique and appearance of a 20-something year old athlete. His diet on a typical day consists of fresh squeezed organic orange juice for breakfast, a large salad with a dressing made of avocado, lemon and cold-pressed olive oil for lunch and a nutmilk shake made from germinated almonds and sunfllower seeds, water, raw honey, unrefined sea salt, and cold-pressed flaxseed oil for dinner. His diet is very low in calories, which is one way in which the raw diet is similar to the Calorie Restriction (CR) Diet. CR dieters also eat a lot of raw foods in an attempt to consume foods that are nutrient dense. According to recent studies in which mice who were fed a reduced calorie diet lengthened their lifespan by a third, the CR diet and raw food diet could potentially allow us to live until an average age of 130 years old.

LOS ANGELES, California, March 14th 2004/WeightWire -- Storm is a 54 year old man who appears to be in his 30's. Gravity doesn't seem to exist on planet Storm. His face is smooth and his body is muscular and lean. Muscular (rather than just lean) is unusual on a raw-vegan, a person who eats only un-cooked vegetables, nuts, seeds, and fruits. Muscular is one of the reasons why Storm and his retreats are well known in the raw foods movement. It doesn't hurt that Storm is one of the oldest raw foodists in the movement, and that he has been a raw-vegan for over 30 years.
Storm's raw foods retreats don't just teach you how to shop for and prepare raw foods, but they also teach Storm's own workout regimen "The Circular Workout". The workout was designed by Storm to develop a balanced muscular development through working with the body's own weight.
Storm claims his success with the raw foods diet is based on a combination of exercise and creating tasty yet healthy recipes. "A lot of raw foods recipes aren't all that healthy. Once you start dehydrating foods you are just looking at another form of lifeless food, even though they call it raw" says Storm. "The other extreme is a raw diet that is all based on eating for health with no attention to how the food tastes. I never feel deprived. My recipes taste more delicious than cooked foods, and yet they are totally nourishing and free of toxins".
The results of attending Storm's retreats are intense. From Friday at noon until Monday at noon you prepare and eat only 100% organic fresh raw vegan foods and you work out most of the rest of the time. For only $100 a night, the price of a basic hotel, you get to relax in a hidden mountain valley in the national forest and eat "the highest food on the planet" according to Storm. People who come to the retreats often stay "raw for life", lose weight, rejuvenate, heal body mind and spirit, and develop a new physique.
The raw foods craze has taken off in Hollywood with celebrities such as Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson, Alicia Silverstone, Donna Karan, Sting, Madonna, and Carol Alt adopting the diet. With Storm's retreat at "The Castle in the Woods" in Pine Mountain Club just an hour and a half from Los Angeles, Industry people and us regular folks have a new option for a real-quick get-in-shape retreat that just might change your health habits for good!
