DETROIT BUSINESSWOMAN LAUNCHES SECOND BOOK

Author - Angela Boone

Bookcover

Detroit, MI - (4/27/04) African-American Angela Boone is the author of the books titled, "Faith cometh by Hearing" (Romans 10:17), and "Live What "U" Preach PREACHERS". "Faith cometh by Hearing" is based on Boone's journey as a business owner, and how she overcame significant trails and tribulations in a male dominated industry as owner of her own construction company.

"Live What "U" Preach PREACHERS" is based on the worst type of abuse there is; and a relationship torn a part by jealousy, envy, pride, homosexuality, adultery and prostitution, both real stories. But out of all, what the devil meant for evil, God turned it around. Every year thousands of women and men fail to leave abusive relationships and some end up dead. Read the books for yourself, and/or be a blessing to someone you know. Boone shares with her readers in both books great Testimonies, and what to look for in a good relationship, friendship, business partner, and even a church home.

Boone shows you ministries that will outwardly appear righteous unto men and women, but they come to you in sheep's clothing. Start your year out by knowing, what you need to know to excel in life. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. We are dealing with principalities and powers sent by the devil to steal, kill and destroy. There are so many people that don't understand what they are up against with their families, in their businesses, on their jobs, and in churches that are under messy leadership. People need to know what to do". Hopefully, these series of books will serve as a guide and a blessing. The Bibles says, "For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?

Boone said, "Everybody is not who they say they are", and God is no respecter of persons.

Order today by calling or going to our website: www.AngelaBoone.com or send your check or money order for $14.95 for "Live What U Preach Preachers" or $12.95 for "Faith Cometh By Hearing" plus $3.00 each book for shipping and handling to: 1150 Griswold, Suite 3126, Detroit, Michigan 48226.

NATIONWIDE BARNES & NOBLE ADOPTS TERRY E. HILL'S THRILLING DEBUT NOVEL "Inside the Fall"

An Insider's Look into San Francisco City Hall Politics, The Mayor's Personal Life and the Homeless Factor

Author, Terry E. Hill

San Francisco, CA - (4/21/04) "Inside the Fall" caused Barnes & Noble Booksellers to do a double take. Barnes & Noble took a second look at the thrilling debut novel by sensational Oakland, California author Terry E. Hill, and decided the book is a keeper. Barnes & Noble Booksellers stores nationwide now carry the intriguing insider's tales of back-office politics under the leadership of San Francisco's first African American mayor. Mayor Elijah D. Farrow had it all -- a lovely, intelligent and polished high-society wife, presidential-like influence across the nation, and his eye on serving a second term. Why, then would he jump from the fifth floor ledge of the City Hall rotunda? And, to what lengths did his wife go to instigate his downfall?

"Inside the Fall" delves into the city's ongoing issues concerning the homeless, the mayor's homosexual affair, and his consequential suicide in the City Hall rotunda.

What "Primary Colors" exposed about national politics, "Inside the Fall" reveals about big city politics. Hill cleverly weaves recent news headlines into his storyline, and even offers a startling, yet simple solution to San Francisco's current homelessness problem. Hill's new and dynamic literary offering shares a first-hand account of what goes on behind closed doors in the world of high-stakes politics.

I thoroughly enjoyed "Inside the Fall" and the characters - whose lives I had the brief privilege of observing. I anxiously anticipate reading future works by Mr. Hill.
The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers

Without giving away the key element that made me almost skip going to see Arthur Blythe blow his alto saxophone Monday night - how do I tell you, without telling you, why this book ... is a great romp?
San Francisco Bay View

"Inside the Fall" is an impressive debut novel by Terry E. Hill. It's a little book (only 182 pages), but it packs a big punch, exploring a political sex scandal leading to a mayor's lethal fall from grace.
CityFlight Newsmagazine

"Terry E. Hill is the next E. Lynn Harris!"
Terris McMahan Grimes, author of "Somebody Else's Child"

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Terry E. Hill has worked in the social services industry for over 15 years. A native of Southern California, he attended Cal State Los Angeles where he majored in Sociology, and B.I.O.L.A University, where he trained to become a missionary.

From 1997 to 1999 Hill was Director of the Mayor's Office on Homelessness for the City and County of San Francisco under former Mayor Willie L. Brown, Jr. In this role, he advised the mayor, county supervisors and city departments on homelessness and poverty policy. Under Hill's leadership, San Francisco opened three new shelters for homeless individuals and families, and two drop-in centers. Additionally, during Hill's tenure, the city implemented a very successful homeless policy called "No Turn Away," which significantly reduced the number of homeless persons sleeping on the streets of San Francisco.

Hill also oversaw the city's first centralized shelter referral system for the homeless and he established San Francisco's first Local Homeless Coordinating Board, which was responsible for setting homeless policy.

"Inside The Fall" is Hill's first novel. He is currently working on his second, entitled "Come Sunday Morning." 43-year-old Terry E. Hill resides in Oakland, California.

Note to editors: Though Mr. Hill is a previous employee of San Francisco mayor, Willie L. Brown's office, all characters and situations depicted in "Inside the Fall" are fictional and are not intended to imply factual states of affairs.

CAN BOOKS WRITTEN BY BLACKS SERVE AS A LIFE-JACKET FOR THE DISMAL PLIGHT OF AFRICAN-AMERICANS?

Top Ten Books For Black Libraries

(4/6/04). Carter R. Hanna, a successful businessman and co-sponsor Dr. Rosie Milligan, publisher/author/nationally acclaimed speaker, are conducting a national survey on books that should be in every African-American personal library.

Carter has coined the ten books that will be selected as: "Literary Gems." He contends that African-Americans do not have adequate representation in the media, locally or nationally, therefore books are an important and necessary means of distributing information by and about us. These Literary Gems are books that will help African-Americans to: Accurately gain pictures of self Seek spiritual, physical and psychological liberation Pursue and obtain self-determination To be confident in their promising future because of acquiring true knowledge of our rich history and achievements Seek solutions for our own problems and to create a hunger and thirst for knowledge and self-empowerment.

When we read books written by African Americans, we get more than a story. We get the wisdom of those who have journeyed before us and a glimpse of life extracted from the experiences of those who are journeying with us today. Whether the story is resourceful, cunning, innovative, or a tale of defeat or triumph, they offer insight, survival skills and techniques to deal with life and its perplexities. If we are in search of ways to gain greater love for our fellow humans, knowledge of self and who we are as a people is necessary. True knowledge of our past and the truth about our present are a blueprint for our liberation. In our literary tradition we find thoughts and ideas to empower our people to take charge of their destiny.

Persons interested in participating in the Literary Gems survey can go to www.literarygems.com. You will be able to print (1) Position Statement on Literary Gems: Ten Books We All Should Have In Our Library and (2) Literary Gems Questionnaire and (3) most commonly asked questions about Literary Gems survey. As she got older, the only place that Rae Lynne could find peace was in the sweet lavender patch near her house.

BEACON PUBLISHING RELEASES THREE POWERFUL AND EXEMPLARY AFRICAN-AMERICAN NOVELS

1) "African-American Women on the South, Midlife, and Inspirational Teachers"

Trudier Harris was born the sixth of nine children in Greene County, Alabama in 1948. She lived on her family's prosperous eighty-acre cotton farm until her father's sudden death when she was six years old. Forced to sell the farm, Harris's mother moved the family to a three room, tar-papered house in Tuscaloosa where she raised her children with the support of a segregated and tight-knit black community. Today Harris is a widely respected critic of African-American literature and a professor of English at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Now, in a collection of essays entitled SUMMER SNOW: Reflections from a Black Daughter of the South, Harris celebrates the southern black culture that shaped her and explores what it means to be a black "Southerner;" to abhor the South's history of violent racism while embracing the place where her family has lived, loved, and prospered. "The South is not paradise," she muses, "but it's not the devil's home base either."

For more information on Summer Snow, to receive a review copy, or to set up an interview with Trudier Harris, please contact Pamela MacColl, pmaccoll@beacon.org or 617-948-6582.

2) "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number"

The days before Carleen Brice's 35th birthday were filled with panic. The birthday itself was just saved from disaster by a visit from her cousin, who had recently celebrated her 40th birthday. Brice asked her cousin how it was that 40 didn't fill her with dread, and her cousin explained that she had finally settled in to her life. She said, "I'm 40, and I figure that during the first half of my life, everything bad that could happen has happened. The second half of my life is for me." In honor of her own impending 40th birthday, Carleen Brice welcomes readers to midlife in Age Ain't Nothing but a Number: Black Women Explore Midlife.

In essays, prose, and poetry pieces, 45 Black women writers celebrate themselves and the second half of their lives, casting aside years of racism and sexism, and find the blessing in achieving midlife. Brice has included the work of Maya Angelou, J. California Cooper, Pearl Cleage, Nikki Giovanni, Susan L. Taylor, Alice Walker, and numerous others.

"When I grow up I want to keep on growing! AGE AIN'T NOTHING BUT A NUMBER is my roadmap. Thank you my ageless sisters." -Iyanla Vanzant, author of Every Day I Pray: Prayers for Awakening to the Grace of Inner Communion

For more information on Age Ain't Nothing but a Number, to receive a review copy, or to set up an interview with Carleen Brice, please contact Kathy Daneman, kdaneman@beacon.org or 617-948-6584.

3) "In Praise of Our Teachers: A Multicultural Tribute to Those Who Inspired Us"

Includes 32 pieces by James Earl Jones, Jill Ker Conway, Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, Robin D.G. Kelley, Langston Hughes, Nikki Giovanni, Maya Angelou, and Alice Walker, among others. Howard Zinn reflects on teaching honestly and about teaching through actions. Marian Wright Edelman writes about Zinn and their days together at Spelman.

"[T]he contributors herein bear witness to the impact teachers have had on their lives," Wade Gayles writes in her introduction. "They journey into clear memory where their experiences with committed and creative teachers reside, never to be erased. Whether the experience took place in rural Mississippi or northern Massachusetts, in the first grade or in college, in an English class or science class, the contributors-from varying races, ethnicities, and persuasions-praise their teachers for guiding them to paths they would not have traveled otherwise."

WHERE SCHOOL TEXTBOOKS HAVE FAILED BLACK STUDENTS, THE JUST LIKE ME SERIES IS A HUGE SUCCESS

http://www.justlikemebooks.com

Washington, DC - (6-11-03). A new report shows that Just Like Me Books inspire and motivate Black children like no other children s books on the market. Washington, DC teacher Elizabeth Davis (Vocational Teacher of Year in 2000) used the Just Like Me Series in all four of her classes and found that the attitudes of students changed dramatically. Students expressed to Ms. Davis that the books helped erase negative stereotypes they believed about Black people and made them feel smarter. Ms. Davis said, "In my 31 years of teaching I have never seen anything like the Just Like Me Books. These history-coloring books designed for younger children (grades 1- 6) have inspired and motivated my 7th, and 8th graders. These books have definitely made a major impact on all my students."

The Just Like Me Series takes a child on a journey through time from the past to the future. The journey begins in ancient Africa with the first book of the series, teaching children about ancient African discoveries like mathematics, the first 365-day calendar, ink, and paper. The journey continues to early America in the second book where children learn about the many great Black inventions like the first working refrigerator, the carbon filament light bulb, and the first motorized street sweeper. At this point the historical journey ends and the child's own personal journey into the future begins in the final book of the series. The child flips through pages and pages of possible hobbies that can become rewarding careers with good grades and hard work.

Due to the state of school textbooks, the Just Like Me Series is a must for every Black parent in the country according to Ms. Davis. The textbooks we use in classrooms around the country marginalize African American students by indicating everything from Africa is negative and Black contributions aren't as important as contributions made by white Americans.

School textbooks teach Black history in two parts, slavery and post slavery. These textbooks highlight slavery, civil rights leaders and activists but only a couple of scientists and inventors. The vast majority of African scientists and Black inventors are never mentioned at all in history books. Thousands of our customers from around the country have told us that the Just Like Me Series is the only set of books in the country filling in the enormous holes left by school textbooks. Customers can order by going to the website at www.justlikemebooks.com or 888-586-BOOK.
