Your online business will likely require more advertising than a contemporary business downtown. Yet, some people, new to the world of online business, do not spend the time and money necessary to advertise their business appropriately and are, in turn, losing money. Your online business is crammed into the World Wide Web alongside thousands of other businesses selling the same or similar products or services. Consider this scenario: In your hometown you want to open an art supply store. In that same town there are thousands of art supply stores. In order for your business to be successful, it will have to stand out in some way from the others. This is exactly what is happening when a business is opened online. There is so much competition, that you must adopt drastic measures to ensure that you get noticed. Advertising can be done in so many different ways online. These are some of the most successful ways that you can promote your online business.
Advertising In e-Zines:
Advertising in e-zines is a popular way to promote your online business. Ezines are the magazines of the Internet; they are written on a particular subject and read by people interested in that subject. Therefore, ezine readers are already potential customers and advertising your site in ezines that are related to your business is almost guaranteed to help drive traffic to your site and increase sales for your product. You should be sure when advertising in ezines that you are not advertising along side competitors. Ask the ezine producer if there is a policy concerning posting competing ads. It is also a good idea to subscribe to the ezine before making a decision about whether or not to advertise in it. An ezine that runs fewer ads is a better choice than one that runs many ads. You can look at the online Directory of Ezines to find publications that are relevant to your company.
Pay-Per-Click:
Pay-per-click programs are an excellent way to advertise your business without taking the risk that you have advertised in the wrong place. With pay-per-click, you can advertise your site and only pay for people who click the link and go to your site(i.e., your ad is placed and although it may be seen by many thousands of people, you only pay for the people who actually use the link by clicking on it). Another popular pay-per program is the pay-per-lead program that allows you to only pay for leads. Usually this means that you pay for only those who download a trial, fill out a form or enter a sweepstakes; whatever you choose. Lastly you can display pay-per-click banner ads in which your company would be allowed to place a banner on someone else's site and you would be charged for every click that your banner receives.
Opt-In-Email:
Opt-In email is a great way to advertise your business, however it is expensive and it can be misused very easily. Using opt-in emails, you would submit your sales copy to a company that will in turn email it to those on their mailing list. You should be very careful since some of the companies that advertise their mailing list as an opt-in email service are really just sending out SPAM (unsolicited mail). It is essential that you have a perfect and effective sales letter when using opt-in mailing lists. Without effective sales copy your money and time have been wasted.

We are all working hard to drive additional traffic through PPC, SEO, affiliate marketing, email campaigns and direct marketing. Once we succeed in acquiring substantial traffic, we work even harder to impact conversions through testing offers, creative, improved navigation, improved content, etc. But what happens after the conversion? What are you communicating on your thank you page to enhance the customer experience and ultimately drive additional revenue?
Many of us are great at driving traffic and even converting traffic into leads or sales - but how many of us even look at the check out process other than making sure the credit card can be processed or that there are no errors encountered.? The thank you page of your site offers a great opportunity to continue marketing and selling to your customers. It is also a great vehicle for building customer loyalty and ensuring return visits to your site.
It is extra work. You are already busy driving traffic, testing and analyzing on the front end-which are all important pieces to the puzzle.
But think for a moment, if you could directly reach customers who have just purchased a product - wouldn t that be an ideal scenario?
Here are 10 tested and successful ideas for advertising on your thank you page:
1.Implement a coupon on the thank you page that gives the customer a % off on their next purchase.
2.Imbed a link in the thank you page that takes them to a satisfaction survey and offer some incentive for filling out the survey.
3.Offer a Tell a friend link in the thank you page so customers can forward information to friends and family-great product endorsement.
4.Sell advertisement to other companies or develop revenue share deals to promote other products that are complimentary to yours and that your customers would be interested in.
5.Offer a guarantee or some kind of limited warranty.
6.Announce new product releases.
7.Promote a sweepstakes or giveaway.
8.Offer a subscription or automatic renewal if your product warrants some kind of renewal functionality.
9.Promote a trial version of a new or complementary product.
10.Thank your customer with a free gift promotion.
It takes a little extra time and effort, but once your thank you page is optimized for additional sales you will see a great return on your investment.

Many people on the internet are looking for ways to make their internet advertising more effective. Usually they go about it in a random way analyzing other people's websites and adjusting their own site.
After sending a message about internet advertising to some of my friends online, one person named Cecil asked me:
"So tell me, Alan. What does a good ad look like?"
Here's what I said.
Off the top of my head effective internet advertising or any advertising has 5 characteristics, here's what they are:
1. The ad MUST TARGET a specific audience. No use selling plastic surgery to increase the breast size to a bunch of Catholic nuns! =) If you are trying to sell muscle bulking supplements to slim girls who want to look like Brittany Spears, you'll be out of business in no time.
2. Has a KILLER headline (GRABS ATTENTION) You are exposed to thousands upon THOUSANDS of marketing and advertising every single day. How do you get someone to stop on their tracks and read you advertisement. An attention grabbing headline is the most effective way to do it.
3. Compels the people in your particular niche to look at your advertisement a lot longer. (INTEREST) In other words - don't bore your viewers to tears by writing an advertisement that makes people want to click off.
In other words, if you can keep the viewer glued to your screen longer than when they see Paris Hilton in a bikini - you have yourself a winner.
4. Have them DESIRE to have what you have - and make them feel that they are missing out. (DESIRE) Some may say it's manipulative, but I think it's for my viewer's benefit.
It's generally true that the person reading your advertisement doesn't have the product or service you are advertising. You are just helping them make the decision to buy your product now so that they can have that feeling of owning your product.
5. A call to ACTION. Give them CLEAR instructions to sign up, purchase, or respond to your internet advertising. If you don't give them a clear and definite way to buy your product - you'll just frustrate your customer who truly wants to buy, and yourself by losing a sale.
Examine your internet advertising for a moment and make sure they have at least those 5 attributes to maximize the effectiveness of selling your product on the internet.
